Remote Computer Science Student information

What is a remote computer science student?

A remote computer science student is someone who is studying computer science online, rather than attending classes in person. This allows them to access coursework, lectures, and assignments through digital platforms from anywhere with an internet connection. Remote students often interact with professors and classmates via email, discussion boards, or video calls. This flexible learning format can be beneficial for those balancing other commitments or living far from campus.

Job description

COMPANY PROFILE

CodeAI is an education innovation nonprofit dedicated to the vision that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn about artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science (CS) as part of their core K-12 education. We increase participation in AI+CS education by reaching students of all backgrounds where they are โ€” at their skill level, in their schools, and in ways that inspire them to keep learning, with a focus on increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. The leading provider of K-12 AI+CS education curriculum across the globe, CodeAI also organizes the annual Hour of AI campaign, building on the legacy of the Hour of Code, which has engaged more than 15% of all students in the world!

A unifying approach in a divided world

CodeAI's global role in the K-12 computer science movement is only possible because we use a unifying approach across diverse and often divided stakeholders. At a time of increasing polarization, the idea of increasing opportunity for students unites people from across the political spectrum. CodeAI's team members, students, teachers, and supporters have diverse and diverging view points, and they are all welcome in our mission. Read more.

JOB SUMMARY

At CodeAI, we're dedicated to broadening access to computer science and AI education in every classroom. To scale our impact, we're seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead the cross-functional development and end-to-end delivery of products and features that expand access to AI and computer science learning for K-12 students and teachers. In this role, you'll own outcomes for a domain within the CodeAI product focused on secondary student learningโ€”developing deep customer and domain expertise, defining strategy and roadmaps, and partnering closely with engineering, design, curriculum, and data to ship features that achieve measurable goals for teachers, students, and the organization. You'll operate with significant independence in a remote and asynchronous environment, communicating crisply to align stakeholders and drive clarity through ambiguity. Grounded in the realities of public school classrooms, you'll keep teachers and students at the center of every product decision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will:

  • Develop and represent deep customer and domain expertise and empathy for your domain(s) within the CodeAI product.
  • Define product strategy, goals, roadmaps, and success measures focused on real classroom impact.
  • Define compelling, right-sized features and write clear requirements documents that guide development and align stakeholders.
  • Lead the cross-functional development and end-to-end delivery of complex, multifaceted products and features, in partnership with engineering, design, teaching and learning, and data.
  • Conduct user research with educators and contextual inquiry with students; synthesize insights into clear product decisions.
  • Balance qualitative feedback and quantitative signals to make trade-offs, deciding when to persevere, pivot, or stop, and using data to measure success beyond vanity metrics.
  • Identify risks to timelines, proactively communicate them to stakeholders, and propose solutions that align with business priorities.
  • Represent strategy, roadmap, status, and progress to goals, communicating effectively with stakeholders, cross-functionally, to leadership, and with your development team(s).
  • Partner with engineering to lead product development team(s), maintaining a high bar for product quality and usability while navigating technical constraints.
  • Champion CodeAI's mission by baking equity, accessibility, and classroom practicality into product decisions, and actively contribute to CodeAI's values, practices, and culture.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

We seek candidates who have:

  • 6+ years of product management experience, or an equivalent track record shipping customer-centric, data-driven products.
  • A track record of turning abstract concepts into shipped products in collaboration with design, engineering, and other functions, adapting based on user input.
  • Fluency in customer development and qualitative research, plus expertise using product, market, and customer data to make product decisions.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication, with the ability to drive alignment and clarity through writing in a remote, asynchronous team.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including building and maintaining cross-functional and cross-org relationships and coordinating teams without formal authority.
  • Technical fluency to make sound product decisions for developer-style tools and partner deeply with engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with significant independence and sound judgment in ambiguous or fast-changing environments
  • A bias for action - comfortable starting, iterating, and learning rather than waiting for perfect information
  • Intellectual curiosity about emerging trends in education, technology, and AI, with a track record of proactively staying ahead rather than waiting for direction
  • Comfort with risk-taking and a healthy relationship with failure as part of the learning process

We prefer candidates who also have:

  • Domain expertise relevant to K-12 education, edtech, or building products for learners and educators.
  • Experience building products and services for underrepresented groups.
  • Passion for CS and AI education and deep alignment with CodeAI's mission to broaden access to CS and AI education.
  • A Computer Science, Education, and/or Computer Science education background.

In addition, candidates must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Work within the United States
  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Be willing to travel a minimum of two times per year for team events
OUR CULTURAL PRINCIPLES
