What is a remote computer science OPT?

Remote Computer Science OPT jobs are employment opportunities that allow international students in the U.S. on F-1 visas to work remotely in computer science-related fields during their Optional Practical Training (OPT) period. These positions can include software development, data analysis, IT support, and other technology roles that permit employees to work from locations outside of the traditional office. Such jobs help students gain practical experience in their field of study while offering flexibility in work location. It's important that the job is directly related to the student's major and meets all OPT requirements set by U.S. immigration policies.

How do remote computer science OPT professionals typically collaborate with their teams to ensure project success?

Remote Computer Science professionals often use a combination of collaboration tools such as Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms like Jira or Trello to stay connected with their teams. Regular virtual meetings, code reviews, and documentation sharing are standard practices to maintain clear communication and alignment on project goals. Adapting to asynchronous communication and being proactive in providing updates are essential to overcome the challenges of different time zones and remote work dynamics. Building strong relationships with colleagues through regular check-ins and open communication greatly contributes to successful teamwork and project outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote computer science OPT, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Computer Science Opt, you need a solid background in computer science fundamentals, programming, and problem-solving, typically supported by a relevant degree or technical certification. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), remote collaboration tools, and common programming languages such as Python or Java is essential. Strong self-motivation, effective communication, and time management skills help you stand out in a remote environment. These competencies ensure productivity, high-quality technical output, and smooth teamwork despite working from different locations.

Company Description
About M3: A Japanese global leader in the provision of ground-breaking and innovative technological and research solutions to the healthcare industry. The M3 Group operates in the US, Asia, and Europe with over 5.8 million physician members globally via its physician websites which include mdlinx.com, m3.com, research.m3.com, Doctors.net.uk, medigate.net, and medlive.cn. M3 Inc. is a publicly traded company on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (jp:2413, NIKKEI 225) with subsidiaries in major markets including the US, UK, Japan, South Korea, and China, and in 2020 was ranked in Forbes' Global 2000 list. The M3 Group provides services to healthcare and the life science industry. In addition to market research, these services include medical education, ethical drug promotion, clinical development, job recruitment, and clinic appointment services. M3 has offices in Japan, UK, France, Germany, Brazil, Sweden, China, USA, and South Korea, as well as India.
Due to our continued growth, we are hiring for a AI Engineering Intern to join M3 USA.
Job Description
Build and ship
  • Own a project end to end: understand the problem, build a working version, get it in front of users, improve it based on what they say.
  • Write code that other people can read and maintain. AI-generated or not, it carries your name.
  • Demo your work regularly to the product and engineering team, as well as to the business teams who requested it.

Work with the businesses
  • Talk to the people whose jobs your tool touches. Watch how they actually work rather than taking a feature request at face value.
  • Translate what you hear into something you can build this week, not next quarter.

AI-augmented development
  • Use agentic AI tools (such as Claude Code) as your default workflow.
  • Develop judgment about where these tools help and where they quietly produce garbage. Bring that back to the engineering team.
  • Try new tools as they ship and tell us what you found, including the failures.

Qualifications
Required
  • Actively pursuing or recently obtained a degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Hands-on use of at least one AI coding agent to build something, whether a class project, a side project, or a hackathon entry.
  • Working knowledge of a programming language: Python, TypeScript, or similar.
  • Comfort in a terminal. You should not need a GUI for git.
  • Ability to pick up unfamiliar tools by reading docs and trying things.

Preferred
  • Web development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and any modern framework).
  • Knowledge of how LLMs work under the hood, not only how to prompt them.
  • Anything you have built that other people used, even briefly.
