Job description


GDS Associates, Inc. has an exciting and challenging full-time opportunity with advancement and growth potential for a Field Engineer to work in our Design & Engineering group. This is a remote position based in Texas. As a Field Engineer, you'll design distribution and/or transmission lines that meet client standards and the NESC requirements. Position will require travel to client sites with outside field work collecting GPS data and pole line data. Design software will be used to verify structure and line strength. Designs overhead and underground distribution lines under the supervision of a project lead. Supervises other staking technicians and associate engineers. Develop new clients and/or manage large clients with multiple projects. Position will require travel to client sites with outside field work collecting GPS data. Obtain permits and easements as needed by the clients. Performs project support activities. Interfaces with clients, landowners, and the client's construction contractors. Most of the work is outside and requires a highly motivated individual.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct contact with clients.
  • Develop new clients or expand services to existing clients.
  • Manage multiple design projects and schedules.
  • Design overhead and underground lines.
  • Acquire easements and permits.
  • Communicate with construction crews regarding design and post-design inspection.
  • Responsible for interfacing with landowners to obtain easements and/or permission for the construction of the electric facilities
  • Work independently to meet project schedules.
  • Ensure engineering and construction standards are followed throughout the design, constructability of the design, and compliance with client standards and NESC specifications as necessary.
  • Obtain necessary permits and easements.
  • Accurately and neatly gather field data using paper drawings, forms, electronic data collection devices, digital cameras, or other formats and/or devices specified by the project manager and/or client.
  • Prepare construction sketches and complete staking sheets on forms or by use of computer software packages.
  • Proficient in the use of pole line design software such as Pole Foreman or PLSCADD.
