Job description

The Role:
This role requires 50% travel to our Danville PA facility, and Centreville MD facility, other locations on occasion as needed. 50% remote.
The Electrical Controls Engineer will execute the industrial control and programming strategy for GTI's cultivation and production facilities.
This role will oversee multi-site-level industrial controls, networking, and security related to cultivation environments and process automation across multiple cultivation and production facilities. The Electrical Controls Engineer shall aid in the development of the industrial communication infrastructure and act to plan, deploy, and troubleshoot new functionality for site-level projects. This role will be responsible for overseeing direction of external vendors in keeping with GTI's goals and standards.
The right candidate for us has a strong electrical engineering background, experience in SCADA systems and PLCs, and is comfortable working cross-functionally with both external vendors and internal stakeholders. Significant travel (+50%) is required.
Essential functions:
  • Act as the focal point/interface between the operational technology (OT), IT, and security infrastructures across multiple sites.
  • Ensure that all controls, networking, and security projects are planned and integrated in keeping with the GTI enterprise-level OT and IT direction across multiple sites.
  • Work with integrators, contractors, and site personnel to bring new functionality online and to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Work with site reliability and facilities personnel to develop and execute preventative maintenance plans as relates to OT/IT/security hardware.
  • Maintain SCADA and PLC implementations at the site level in line with GTI OT standards.
  • Maintain up to date as-built records and drawings for OT, IT, and security deployments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Be aware of hazards in the workspace.
  • Retain and understand department specific training.
  • Report safety incidents/ concerns and comply with follow-up actions.
  • Be compliant with area safety requirements, state regulations and PPE requirements.
  • Follow GMP, biosecurity, sanitation or other quality and compliance requirements.
  • Report and escalate safety & quality concerns.

Working Conditions
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time while maintaining focus.
  • Must be able to work in an environment that is 85+ degrees and 70% humidity for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment
  • Work involves daily exposure to allergens (such as cannabis, tree nuts, and coconut oil).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial, electrical, or computer engineering or related field from an ABET Accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 2 years in Operational Technology, with experience troubleshooting and resolving electrical and control system issues.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding engineering drawings, including electrical diagrams and P&IDs.
  • Industrial networking/IT experience, including experience in the administration of Microsoft collaboration software and infrastructure (Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Active Directory)
  • SCADA experience, Ignition by Inductive Automation preferred.
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python preferred.
  • Proficiency with PLCs, Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Rockwell, or similar engineering tools and platforms preferred.
  • CPG/Manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and interpretation skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage large-scale projects from conception to implementation.
  • Ability to work effectively with little supervision; highly independent and flexible with setting and changing priorities.
  • Effective time-management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work well with others while also completing individually assigned tasks.
  • Ability to collaboratively lead and influence stakeholders across all organization functions.
  • Ability to travel 50% and work all days and hours as required.

Additional Requirements
  • Must be at a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must possess valid state ID.
  • Must be able to obtain, and maintain, state badging requirements to work in the cannabis industry (requires background check and state review)

The pay range is competitive and based on experience, qualifications, and/or location of the role. Positions may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
