Cincinnati Re, a division of The Cincinnati Insurance Company, seeks an experienced attorney to join the Cincinnati Re Legal team. This position will serve as legal advisor to Cincinnati Re, providing strategic legal guidance across all aspects of the business, with a particular focus on reinsurance regulatory matters, corporate governance, compliance, transactional support and reinsurance contract wording review and analysis. The position is fully remote.

Salary : The pay range for this position is $175,000 - $225,000 annually. Pay is based on the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Be ready to:

  • serve as a legal advisor to the Cincinnati Re business, providing practical, business-oriented legal counsel to underwriting, claims, operations, finance, and senior management
  • advise on U.S. and international reinsurance regulatory matters, including licensing, regulatory filings, corporate governance requirements, market conduct considerations, and ongoing compliance obligations
  • monitor, analyze, and communicate legal and regulatory developments affecting the reinsurance industry and assess their impact on Cincinnati Re's business activities
  • partner with compliance and business stakeholders to develop and implement policies, procedures, and controls designed to meet applicable legal and regulatory requirements
  • provide legal support for strategic initiatives, new markets, and reinsurance transactions
  • identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks across the Cincinnati Re organization
  • review, analyze, draft, and negotiate assumed and ceded reinsurance agreements and related transaction documents
  • provide legal guidance regarding the interpretation and administration of reinsurance contract provisions and assist in resolving contractual issues that arise during the life of an agreement
  • advise underwriters and business leaders regarding contract wording trends, market practices, emerging legal issues, and regulatory developments
  • collaborate with claims professionals regarding coverage, claims, and reinsurance recovery matters when legal support is needed
  • manage relationships with outside counsel and regulators, as appropriate
  • prepare legal memoranda, presentations, and training materials for business stakeholders
  • effectively manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and meet deadlines in a dynamic business environment

Be equipped with:

  • substantial experience advising insurance, reinsurance, or other financial services organizations on legal and regulatory matters
  • strong knowledge of insurance and reinsurance laws, regulations, regulatory frameworks, and industry practices
  • working knowledge of reinsurance structures, underwriting practices, and claims processes
  • experience reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and interpreting reinsurance contracts and related commercial agreements
  • excellent legal research, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory issues into practical business advice
  • strong attention to detail and sound legal judgment
  • the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues across multiple departments
  • proficiency with Outlook, Word, Adobe, Excel, and other business technologies
  • a proactive, solution-oriented approach to legal and regulatory challenges

Bring education and experience from:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar
  • a minimum of five years of legal experience in insurance, reinsurance, financial services, or a related regulated industry
  • significant experience handling insurance and reinsurance regulatory matters
  • experience reviewing and negotiating reinsurance agreements and contract wording issues preferred
  • experience at a reinsurance company, insurance company, law firm, or insurance regulatory authority preferred
