Job description

Senior Node.js Developer

Our client is looking for a senior developer to take on a high-impact modernization effort on a mission-critical application that supports the majority of their revenue. This role centers on reducing significant technical debt by moving complex business logic out of hundreds of SQL Server stored procedures and into a reusable Node.js service layer, improving performance, maintainability, and flexibility across the application ecosystem. You will work alongside an architect and an experienced senior developer to rebuild the technical foundation of a platform the business runs on.

As part of our process after applying, you may receive an invitation from our AI Recruiter Avery for a short conversation that lets you share more about your background beyond your resume. For questions, contact .

Job Type: Contract - 6 months

Location: Fully Remote

Compensation: This job is expected to pay about $70 - $74 per hour

No Visa Sponsorship Available for this role

What You'll Do:

  • Modernize a business-critical application by extracting business logic from 600 to 800+ SQL Server stored procedures and rebuilding it within a Node.js service layer.
  • Design and develop REST APIs using Node.js and NestJS so core business logic can be reused across multiple applications and platforms.
  • Analyze a complex ColdFusion and SQL Server environment, identify dependencies, and reduce performance and maintainability issues caused by legacy architecture.
  • Use Claude and other agentic development practices to solve problems, generate code, evaluate results, and extend AI-generated solutions.
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests while collaborating closely with the architect and an experienced senior developer to prioritize modernization work.

What Gets You the Job:

  • Strong hands-on Node.js development experience, including building service layers and REST APIs.
  • Advanced T-SQL and SQL Server stored procedure experience from a software development background, with the ability to understand and refactor complex business logic.
  • Demonstrable experience using AI coding tools, particularly Claude, as part of a practical agentic development workflow.
  • Experience with NestJS and writing unit and integration tests for production applications.
  • ColdFusion experience is preferred but not required.
