Job description

Introduction
The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. Corrections employees have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others through careers in a variety of fields. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Buildings and Grounds Superintendent position, located at Green Bay Correctional Institution in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Position Summary
This position will plan and direct the institution building and grounds maintenance program and coordinate building construction/remodeling projects with the Department of Administration (DOA), Division of Facilities Development (DFD). Responsibilities include maintaining buildings, property, equipment, and service systems in a safe and reliable operating condition. Supervises the Building and Grounds Supervisor, Power Plant Superintendent, and crafts worker staff. This position works with the Warden, Deputy Warden, Security Director, and CMSD to develop the biennial capital building request and the Department of Corrections six-year building project plan; conducts inspections, develops project requests and makes reports, and performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule/range 81-03 with a starting pay of $35.20/hour - $45.67/hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the State Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.
Employees at Green Bay Correctional Institution are eligible for a $5.00/hour add-on for all hours worked.

Job Details
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
This position is not eligible for remote work.
This position has physical requirements, including but not limited to: bending, kneeling, walking, standing, pushing/pulling/lifting up to 75lbs. This position will also work within a wide range of temperatures, in dusty, dirty, or confined spaces.
This position may be asked to work additional hours, with occasional evening/weekend hours to meet operational needs.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified candidates will have experience:
  • Planning and directing buildings and grounds operations

  • Managing preventative maintenance programs

  • Supervision or leadership in managing day-to-day operations, including directing subordinate staff (assigning/reviewing work, conducting performance evaluations, etc.)

In addition to the above, well-qualified candidates will have experience:
  • Developing and managing remodeling and/or repair projects

  • Managing and oversight of heating, cooling and refrigeration systems; electronic, food service, and grounds equipment; institution security systems, and other building structure components

  • Interpreting and applying State and Federal codes and standards

  • Developing and/or monitoring a capital budget
