POSITION
Sr. Speciality Physician Coder - Interventional Radiology
Position Type: Temporary
Schedule: M-F, 20 - 30 hours/wk (Remote; Must reside in California)
Assignment Length: Approximately 3-Months, possibly Longer.
DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Coding Compliance Manager, the Senior Specialty Physician Coder is responsible for reviewing and accurately coding physician services to ensure compliant reimbursement and complete charge capture.
This role is highly specialized in Interventional Radiology (IR) and requires a coder who can independently perform complex IR coding from day one. The coder will also support coding operations, identify trends and irregularities, and collaborate with leadership on compliance and process improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform independent, high-level Interventional Radiology (IR) coding for outpatient (Profee) services
  • Review and abstract medical records to ensure accurte and complete charge capture
  • Assign accurateICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for procedures and services
  • Perform charge entry and submission in Epic with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, payer requirements, and organizational policies
  • Identify and communicate coding trends, discrepancies, and compliance risks
  • Serve as a resource and point of contact for contract coders, ensuring continuity of coding operations
  • Collaborate with the Coding Compliance Manager on coding issues, trends, and corrective actions
  • Communicate effectively with providers and revenue cycle teams to resolve coding and billing issues
  • Provide guidance, support, and mentoring to coding staff as needed
REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 5 years of medical coding experience in a hospital or physician practice setting
  • At least 2+ years of recent, hands-on Interventional Radiology (IR) coding experience
  • Demonstrated ability to perform IR coding independently (no training provided)
  • Strong Profee (professional fee) coding experience - outpatient only
Technical Knowledge
  • Expert knowledge of:
    • ICD-10-CM
    • CPT
    • HCPCS
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
    • Healthcare revenue cycle
  • Proven ability to analyze complex documentation and resolve coding issues
Systems
  • Epic experience required, including charge entry and submission
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Certification & Education
  • CPC, CCS, or CIRCC equivalent coding certification required
  • High School Diploma or GED required
