What is a remote CNC router programmer?

A Remote CNC Router Programmer is a professional who creates and modifies computer programs that control CNC (Computer Numerical Control) routers from a remote location. These routers are used to cut, shape, and carve materials like wood, plastic, and metal according to precise specifications. The programmer uses CAD/CAM software to design toolpaths and generate G-code, which directs the CNC machine’s movements. By working remotely, they collaborate with manufacturers, shops, or clients over the internet, providing flexibility and access to a broader range of projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote CNC router programmer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote CNC Router Programmer, you need strong skills in CAD/CAM design, CNC programming, and a background in manufacturing or machining, typically supported by relevant technical education or certifications. Familiarity with software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam, and CNC controller systems is essential for creating precise machining instructions. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with teams and troubleshooting issues. These skills ensure efficient, high-quality production and smooth workflow coordination in a remote manufacturing environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote CNC router programmers, and how can they overcome them?

Remote CNC Router Programmers often face challenges related to communication and collaboration with on-site teams, as they do not have direct access to the physical machines. To overcome this, it’s important to establish clear channels for feedback and ensure that programming files and setup instructions are detailed and easy to follow. Utilizing collaborative software and maintaining regular virtual check-ins can also help in resolving issues quickly and ensuring that production runs smoothly. Staying up-to-date with the latest CAD/CAM software and remote troubleshooting techniques further contributes to success in this role.

What is the difference between Remote Cnc Router Programmer vs CNC Machinist?

AspectRemote Cnc Router ProgrammerCNC Machinist
CredentialsTechnical certifications, programming coursesTrade school, technical training
Work EnvironmentRemote, computer-based programmingOn-site, machine operation
Industry UsageManufacturing, custom fabricationManufacturing, metalworking

The main difference is that a Remote Cnc Router Programmer focuses on creating and editing CNC programs remotely using CAD/CAM software, while a CNC Machinist operates and sets up CNC machines on-site. The programmer's role is more design and software-oriented, whereas the machinist handles physical machine operation and adjustments.

Job Overview

We are seeking experienced SolidWorks Specialists to contribute their expertise to an innovative project at the intersection of mechanical engineering and emerging AI technology. In this role, you will help improve next-generation AI systems by creating, reviewing, and refining mechanical CAD models and technical documentation. No prior AI experience is required—your engineering and CAD expertise are what matter most.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create fully parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies using SolidWorks based on detailed design requirements.

  • Edit and update existing parametric CAD models while maintaining robust feature trees, design intent, and model integrity.

  • Review and audit CAD models for dimensional accuracy, tolerance application, manufacturability, and overall design quality.

  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles across manufacturing processes including injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, casting, and forging.

  • Develop and maintain clear engineering documentation to support design revisions and AI model training.

  • Translate engineering requirements into structured CAD data suitable for AI learning and validation.

  • Collaborate remotely with cross-functional teams, providing clear written reports, technical documentation, and verbal updates.

Required Skills
  • SolidWorks.

  • Parametric CAD modeling.

  • GD&T (ASME Y14.5).

  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM).

  • Mechanical design.

  • Injection molding.

  • Sheet metal design.

  • CNC machining.

  • Casting and forging.

  • Assembly modeling.

  • Tolerance application.

  • Project documentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years of hands-on parametric CAD experience for editing tasks and 10+ years for creating complex assemblies.

  • Expert proficiency in SolidWorks, with experience in Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, or FreeCAD considered an advantage.

  • Practical experience applying GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5 or equivalent standards.

  • Proven experience supporting multiple manufacturing processes, including injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, casting, and forging.

  • Current experience in mechanical or industrial CAD modeling.

  • Reverse engineering expertise, including Scan-to-CAD and point cloud conversion workflows.

  • Experience with assembly-level design and CAD workflow automation using Python, iLogic, VBA, or similar scripting tools.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong technical documentation abilities.

Why Join Us?
