Senior Oracle Database Administrator

Location: Remote (Eastern, Central, or Mountain Time Zones – U.S. only)

Clearance Requirements: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance (includes criminal, financial, and drug screening).

Position Status: Contract

Position Description: We are seeking an experienced Senior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to join a mission‐critical program supporting federal financial systems. This role involves providing 24x7 production and operational support for Oracle databases in Unix-based environments, with a focus on performance tuning, automation, and reliability.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with deep technical knowledge in Oracle 12c and 19c, experienced in RAC, ASM, RMAN, and TDE, and comfortable managing large-scale, secure database environments. You'll collaborate with cross‐functional technical teams to design, implement, and optimize database solutions that support enterprise applications in a high‐availability setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert‐level Oracle database administration support in production and development environments (AIX, UNIX, Linux).
  • Perform installation, configuration, patching, tuning, and upgrades of Oracle databases (12c, 19c).
  • Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations using RMAN and Data Pump.
  • Monitor and resolve performance bottlenecks, ensuring system stability and reliability.
  • Support database replication, partitioning, failover, and cloning activities.
  • Implement and maintain security standards, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE & TLS).
  • Develop and maintain shell scripts and automation tools to streamline DBA tasks.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and development teams to optimize database performance.
  • Participate in on‐call rotation and support after‐hours maintenance or incident response as needed.

Required Skills & Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field — or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of hands‐on Oracle DBA experience in enterprise environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle 11g/12c/19c database architecture and administration best practices.
  • Proficiency in:
    • PL/SQL, SQL Plus, SQL Developer
    • AIX, UNIX, and Linux operating systems
    • Shell scripting for automation and maintenance
  • Expertise in database performance tuning, recovery, replication, and patching.
  • Experience supporting Java‐based applications with Oracle backends.
  • Excellent problem‐solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross‐functional technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or similar cloud platforms.
  • Exposure to DevOps tools and database automation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with financial systems environments.
