Remote Cloud Developer information

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote cloud developer?

To thrive as a Remote Cloud Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as Python, Java, or Node.js), experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and often a relevant degree or certifications. Familiarity with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-specific services (e.g., AWS Lambda, Azure Functions) is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, self-motivation, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and project delivery. These skills ensure the effective development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable cloud solutions in distributed work environments.

What does a remote cloud developer do?

A Remote Cloud Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining applications and services that run on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. They work remotely to create scalable, secure, and efficient solutions using cloud technologies, often collaborating with teams through online tools. Their tasks include writing code, integrating APIs, deploying applications, and optimizing cloud resources. This role requires strong programming skills, familiarity with cloud architectures, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a distributed environment.

How do remote cloud developers collaborate with distributed teams and manage project communication?

Remote Cloud Developers frequently work with geographically dispersed teams, making effective communication and collaboration essential. Most teams rely on tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and project management platforms such as Jira or Trello to coordinate tasks, share updates, and resolve issues. Regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and documentation are important to ensure alignment and maintain code quality. Adapting to asynchronous communication and being proactive about clarifying requirements or roadblocks can help overcome challenges related to time zone differences and remote work dynamics.

What is the difference between Remote Cloud Developer vs Cloud Engineer?

AspectRemote Cloud DeveloperCloud Engineer
Required CredentialsTypically requires cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP), programming skills, and development experienceOften requires similar certifications, with a focus on infrastructure, deployment, and system architecture
Work EnvironmentPrimarily focused on software development, coding, and application deployment in cloud environmentsInvolves designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure and services
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by tech companies, startups, and organizations developing cloud-based applicationsEmployed by cloud service providers, large enterprises, and organizations managing cloud infrastructure
Common Search & Comparison IntentPeople compare these roles to understand development vs infrastructure responsibilities in cloud computing

Remote Cloud Developers focus on coding and deploying cloud applications, while Cloud Engineers handle infrastructure design and management. Both roles require cloud certifications and are integral to cloud-based projects, but they differ in daily tasks and responsibilities.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Quality Engineering based in Netherlands.

Join a high-impact engineering team focused on building the quality infrastructure that enables developers to deliver reliable software at scale. In this role, you will design and enhance automated testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering tools that improve software quality across a modern cloud-native platform. You will leverage AI-driven technologies to strengthen test automation, accelerate regression detection, and continuously improve engineering efficiency. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will help establish quality as a core engineering discipline while contributing hands-on to software development. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment with a strong culture of innovation and ownership.

Accountabilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks supporting REST and gRPC APIs.
  • Build and improve AI-assisted quality engineering solutions to automate test generation, strengthen regression coverage, and convert production incidents into long-term automated test cases.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines to improve software delivery speed and reliability.
  • Plan and execute performance, load, stress, and scalability testing to validate platform resilience under increasing demand.
  • Implement chaos engineering practices by designing fault-injection experiments that proactively identify system weaknesses.
  • Standardize quality engineering tools, frameworks, and development workflows to improve the developer experience across engineering teams.
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers to increase test coverage, diagnose production issues, and deliver robust technical solutions.
  • Mentor fellow engineers and promote engineering best practices focused on quality, automation, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer building and supporting production-grade software systems.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience developing applications in Go, with strong proficiency in strongly typed programming languages.
  • Practical experience using AI-powered development tools and large language models (LLMs) to enhance software engineering and testing workflows.
  • Proven expertise designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitHub Actions, Google Cloud Build, or similar platforms.
  • Strong experience developing automated testing frameworks for distributed or microservices-based architectures.
  • Solid knowledge of Kubernetes, Helm, containerization, and cloud-native deployment best practices.
  • Experience working in startup or fast-paced environments with evolving priorities and a high level of ownership.
  • Ability to independently manage projects from requirements gathering through implementation, deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with Python, TypeScript, Docker, Terraform, Argo CD, Google Cloud Platform, Google Kubernetes Engine, Kafka, Redpanda, chaos engineering tools, or performance testing frameworks such as k6 and ghz would be considered an advantage.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary.
  • Equity or stock option program.
  • Comprehensive health benefits.
  • One-time home office setup allowance of USD $500.
  • Monthly remote work stipend of USD $150.
  • Fully remote work environment with global collaboration.
  • Opportunity to work with modern cloud-native technologies, AI-powered engineering practices, and large-scale distributed systems.
  • Inclusive and collaborative culture that values continuous learning, ownership, and innovation.
