Job description

UMB's Enterprise Cloud Architect team was recently formed to streamline and accelerate adoption of the Cloud. The team provides self-service means to empower other teams to deploy cloud-native platforms while ensuring security, governance, architectural best-practice, cost containment, and control. The team works to provide architecture, tools, services, knowledge, support, organization structure, and operating model arranged as a compelling product.

As a Cloud Engineer, you will be heavily participating in defining the organization's cloud platform strategy, designing enterprise cloud solutions, and enabling cloud adoption across the business. This involves combining architecture vision with hands-on cloud engineering to align technical decisions with business objectives and regulatory requirements. This is a subset of the overall responsibilities which will include multiple initiatives as assigned by IT leadership.

This role is hybrid (Mon through Thu on-site / Fri remote) at the UMB Technology & Operations Center located in downtown Kansas City, MO.

How you will spend your time:

  • Participate in defining enterprise cloud strategy (AWS), reference architectures, and design patterns.
  • Involved in hands-on building of AWS environments.
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines (Terraform)
  • Adhere to governance frameworks, technology standards, and architectural principles.
  • Communicate architectural vision to executive, technical, and business audiences

We are excited to talk if you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in designing and implementing cloud architecture (AWS) for enterprise environments.
  • Following technical skills:
    • Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
    • AWS Cloud platform
    • AWS Cloud security, identity, and compliance (i.e. IAM, VPC, etc.)
    • AWS Network fundamentals (i.e. VPC design, routing, NLB, ALB, API_GW, etc.)
    • Containerization (i.e. Docker)
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Strategic thinker mindset balancing delivery with long-term vision.
  • Proficiency in Agile/Scrum.

Bonus Points if you have:

  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional Certification, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional Certification, or any additional cloud certifications
  • Banking/financial services industry experience
  • Development experience especially with .NET
  • AWS Enterprise Support or Well-Architected Review experience
  • Event-driven architecture (i.e. Kafka, Kinesis)
  • Microservices and API design
  • Kubernetes advanced management
  • IDE experience

Compensation Ranges:

US Employees in California, Washington DC, New Jersey, and New York:

$100,710 - $157,630

US Employees in Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin:

$91,950 - $144,320

US Employees in all other states not listed above:

$83,200 - $131,000
