Remote Closed Captioning Editor information

What is a remote closed captioning editor?

A Remote Closed Captioning Editor is a professional who creates, reviews, and edits text captions for video and audio content from a remote location. Their primary role is to ensure that captions are accurate, well-timed, and synchronized with the spoken words and sound effects in the media. This job is crucial for making content accessible to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as viewers who prefer or require captions. Remote Closed Captioning Editors use specialized software to transcribe audio, correct errors, and format captions according to industry standards. Attention to detail and strong language skills are essential for success in this role.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote closed captioning editor?

To thrive as a Remote Closed Captioning Editor, you need excellent English grammar, spelling, typing skills, and attention to detail, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with captioning software, video editing tools, and sometimes knowledge of accessibility standards like FCC or ADA guidelines is essential. Strong time management, focus, and the ability to work independently are standout soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure accurate, timely, and accessible captions, which are crucial for audience comprehension and compliance with legal requirements.

What are common challenges faced by remote closed captioning editors, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Closed Captioning Editors often encounter challenges such as tight turnaround times, varying audio quality, and the need for high accuracy in transcribing spoken content. Managing distractions in a remote work environment and staying up-to-date with captioning software can also be demanding. To address these challenges, it's important to establish a structured work routine, invest in quality headphones, and regularly review industry guidelines. Many editors find that clear communication with project managers and ongoing professional development help them maintain both speed and accuracy.

What is the difference between Remote Closed Captioning Editor vs Remote Transcriptionist?

AspectRemote Closed Captioning EditorRemote Transcriptionist
CredentialsAudio/video editing skills, sometimes certification in captioningTyping speed, accuracy, and general transcription skills
Work EnvironmentEditing audio/video files, often with specialized softwareListening and typing from various audio sources
Industry UsageMedia, entertainment, broadcasting, online streamingLegal, medical, general transcription services

Both roles involve working with audio content remotely, but the Remote Closed Captioning Editor focuses on editing and synchronizing captions for videos, often requiring specialized software and captioning standards. The Remote Transcriptionist primarily transcribes audio into text without necessarily focusing on synchronization or caption formatting. While both jobs require strong listening and typing skills, caption editors often need additional knowledge of captioning guidelines and video editing tools.

Job description

VIDEO EDITOR (PAID MEDIA & GENERATIVE AI)
at IncubatorLab Remote - Worldwide
IncubatorLab is looking for an exceptional, AI-driven Video Editor to join our thriving performance team!
Role Objective:
As a Video Editor at IncubatorLab, you will create and edit short-form paid social ads designed to drive performance across platforms such as Meta, TikTok, and YouTube. This role is built for editors who master the intersection of generative AI workflows, advanced prompting, and conversion-focused storytelling-taking concepts from raw script to high-performing final ad.
What You'll Do:
  • Script-to-Ad Execution: Take raw scripts and concepts and build complete, high-converting video ads using a blend of stock, UGC, and AI assets.
  • AI Asset Generation & Prompting: Utilize generative AI tools to prompt and generate custom visuals, AI animations, cartoon/stylized graphics, and hyper-realistic synthetic video assets tailored to specific brand angles.
  • Edit & Iterate Paid Ads: Edit short-form paid social video ads and rapidly iterate variations based on real-time performance insights.
  • Apply Direct-Response Best Practices: Structure aggressive hooks, fast pacing, pattern interrupts, and clear CTAs optimized for social feeds.
  • Collaborate Asynchronously: Partner closely with Creative Strategists and Growth teams in Notion and Slack to test winning creative angles.

Requirements we are looking for:
  • Deep Generative AI Proficiency: Hands-on mastery of cutting-edge AI suites, including Higgsfield AI, Omni AI, HeyGen, Midjourney, Runway, Kling, and ElevenLabs.
  • Advanced Prompting Skills: Proven ability to write precise prompts to build both hyper-realistic visual assets and engaging cartoon/stylized animations directly from a script.
  • Project Workflow & Management: Proficiency working inside Notion for task management, async reviews, and asset handoffs.
  • Conversion-Focused Portfolio: A portfolio demonstrating high-performing paid social ads built for e-commerce brands (bonus points for health, wellness, and supplement experience).
  • Editing Fundamentals: Mastery of pacing, pattern interrupts, color correction, audio mixing, captioning, and sound design.
  • Communication & Remote Fit: Strong written English skills with the ability to work asynchronously in a fast-paced environment.

Working Hours: Async-First We are a global, remote team. We don't care when you do the work, provided deadlines are met and the quality is top-tier. We do ask for a few hours of overlap with US-based EST working hours each day to facilitate team meetings and Slack communication. This ensures we stay agile and can iterate on winning ads in real-time.
HOW TO APPLY
We value high-retention storytelling and creative AI execution over traditional cinematic editing. To apply, submit a link to your portfolio highlighting your work with DTC, UGC-style, or Direct Response video ads.
We specifically want to see:
  1. Generative AI Workflow: Examples showing custom AI-generated visuals (both realistic and cartoon/stylized) prompted directly from scripts or storyboards using tools like Higgsfield AI, Omni AI, or HeyGen.
  2. The First 3 Seconds: Scroll-stopping hooks that combine AI visuals, UGC, or text overlays to lock in attention immediately.
  3. Pacing & Pattern Interrupts: High-retention edits using quick cuts, zooms, captions, and sound design.
  4. Iteration Testing: Examples of multiple iterations of the same ad (e.g., different AI hooks or visual styles).

Note: Please submit a direct-response performance reel. Long-form documentaries, wedding films, or traditional cinematic shorts will not be reviewed.
What's atypical about the company:
Incubator Labs is a performance-focused growth organization that builds and scales brandsthrough rapid experimentation, creative iteration, and disciplined execution. We operate as an internal growth engine, not an agency.
Application Process:
Interested candidates should apply directly for consideration. Upon submitting your application, our hiring team will review your credentials and will notify you if you are selected to participate in the interview process. We appreciate your interest in IncubatorLab and kindly ask that you refrain from inquiries to our teams via LinkedIn.
No third party or agency submissions will be accepted
