Job Summary for Associate Attorney:

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Associate Attorney to join our legal team with a primary focus on collections matters and a secondary focus on personal injury defense. This role involves managing a full caseload from intake through resolution, representing clients in a wide range of proceedings, and providing strategic legal counsel. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, a skilled negotiator, and a trusted partner to clients and colleagues alike.

The Associate Attorney is a remote position, but the candidate must live within commutable distance to New York for occasional in-office meetings and court appearances.

Key Responsibilities for Associate Attorney:
  • Manage a docket of collections matters from initial demand through judgment, post-judgment enforcement, and recovery.
  • Handle personal injury defense files from investigation and discovery through trial preparation and court proceedings.
  • Represent clients in depositions, hearings, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and trials.
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery demands and responses, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Research and analyze applicable laws and case precedent to develop effective legal strategies, and communicate findings to clients and claims representatives.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, claims representatives, opposing counsel, and internal team members.
  • Negotiate payment plans, settlements, and resolutions with debtors, plaintiffs, and opposing counsel.
  • Track and record billable hours accurately and efficiently.
  • Independently manage a caseload with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines and court requirements.
Qualifications for Associate Attorney:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar admission in New York (required).
  • Demonstrated experience in collections litigation (required), including knowledge of New York CPLR, judgment enforcement, and creditors' rights.
  • Personal injury defense experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong research, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Familiarity with billable hour requirements and timekeeping practices.
  • Proficiency with case management software and e-filing systems (NYSCEF).
