Description
SynTerra is seeking a highly motivated Civil/Environmental Engineer to support the planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure and environmental projects. This role involves working on water/wastewater systems, stormwater management, site development, and environmental compliance initiatives. In this role, you'll manage diverse projects from concept through completion, ensuring quality results for our clients across multiple industries.
This is a client-facing position where you'll manage teams, coordinate stakeholders, and deliver innovative engineering solutions that drive real impact.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop civil infrastructure systems, including:
  • Water distribution and wastewater collection systems
  • Stormwater management systems
  • Site grading and drainage plans
  • Prepare engineering reports, technical specifications, and construction documents
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
  • Support permitting processes and environmental documentation
  • Conduct site visits and oversee construction activities as needed
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, fostering strong relationships.
  • Manage projects through all phases: proposal, planning, implementation, and close-out.
  • Build and lead multidisciplinary project teams, assigning roles and ensuring proper resource allocation.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Review and approve project deliverables for quality and compliance.
  • Prepare and review proposals, change requests, and monthly invoices.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mining Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in at least one U.S. state.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in civil or environmental engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in project management.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in business development.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and permitting processes
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working as an environmental or engineering consultant
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
    • Solid waste landfill design, construction, and operations
    • Waste handling or beneficial reuse of residuals (pulp & paper)
    • Stormwater/wastewater impoundment design, construction, and inspections
    • Environmental compliance (solid waste, stormwater, oil pollution control)
    • Water and wastewater permitting and management systems
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as:
    • AutoCAD Civil 3D
    • HEC-RAS/ HEC-HMS
    • SWMM or similar modeling tools
  • Knowledge of local regulations in South Carolina or the Southeast region
