Job description

Job Summary 

We have an exciting opportunity and are currently seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to serve as the Structural Discipline Leader for our Northeast Area market. This is a highly strategic position that requires proven strength in group leadership, design management, and structural engineering design of municipal water and wastewater facilities for our clients.

This candidate will lead a team of fellow structural engineers located in multiple offices. As a team leader, this candidate will manage group workload, hiring, and project assignments, as well as provide mentoring and performance feedback for group employees. Key objectives of the Structural Discipline Leader role are to: represent the discipline within the Portfolio delivery team, ensure the discipline has the resources to deliver all design projects in the Portfolio, support the client portfolio and Portfolio Design Manager to ensure successful project delivery and support the Portfolio Chief Engineer to ensure successful quality assurance and control of project deliverables.  Other responsibilities include overseeing the development of Design Scope and Level of Effort (LOE) documentation, hiring and project assignments, as well as providing motivation, mentoring, and performance feedback for group employees.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a senior level engineer to continue to build upon their engineering career, lead a technical delivery-focused Structural team, do challenging and meaningful work, and protect the earth’s resources at the same time.

This role has the potential to work virtually and can be filled near any BC office, preference in the Northeast United States.

Responsibilities   

  • Manage activities of individual contributors within the team.
  • Steer the execution of structural analysis and design.
  • Guide the preparation and checking of structural calculations, drawings and specifications.
  • Investigate existing conditions and producing comprehensive reports.
  • Enforce compliance to building codes during project execution.
  • Coordinate cross discipline operations for seamless execution of projects.
  • Manage construction phase effort of the team and provide shop drawings and RFI review oversight. 
  • Lead, develop, and coach a high-performing team by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and fostering a culture of engagement, growth, and accountability. 
  • Oversee workload planning, performance management, and team operations to align resources with business objectives while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations. 
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs. 

Skills and Competencies 

  • Expertise in the analysis and design concrete, steel and masonry structures.
  • Proven leadership skills to manage and motivate a team of individual contributors.
  • Solid understanding of structural engineering principles and theories.
  • Excellent decision-making skills in complex situations to achieve objectives. 

Experience  

  • Typically, a minimum of 8 years of experience in structural engineering or a related field. 
  • Proven record in management capacity and leadership roles.
  • Typically certified in BC’s Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Framework, and progressing through the SMS competencies. 

    Education 

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering, or a related field, with professional certification is required for this role. 

    Preferred Education

    • MS degree preferred in related engineering field

    Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.  

    Location A: $129,000 - $177,000
    Location B: $142,000 - $194,000
    Location C: $155,000 - $212,000
