Structural Engineer (SE)
The Position
The Structural Engineer (SE) for Above Group shall contribute and support the Engineering efforts for the Firm. The SE shall possess a bachelor's degree in Civil engineering from an ABET accredited institution. This individual shall directly contribute to the Firm and its success through the application of knowledge and technical experience to effectively produce a quality design and ultimate product to the customer. The SE is also responsible for contributing to the growth of the team by leading and mentoring subordinate staff in expanding their capabilities and contributions. The SE shall execute design duties as required to ensure quality is always maintained.
The SE shall be a Structural Engineer registered as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) passing the 16 hours NCEES exam, in the United States and/or its territories, at a minimum. Additional credentials are encouraged and desired.
  • The SE is a Structural Engineer by education and experience, with the following characteristics:
    • Ability to combine personal judgment with information to establish and implement design criteria.
    • Has expertise conventional steel buildings, Concrete, Masonry, light gage, and wood.
    • Demonstrates proficiency of structural concepts including connection design, design loads, Lateral systems, different materials, and foundation design.
    • Able to use computer software including Staad, Tedds, Excel, and other applicable tools.
    • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as an individual. Communicates effectively with individuals in the organization.
    • Capable of interpreting information set forth in a Basis of Design or a Facilities Requirements Document, as well as additional information gathered from users, other consultants, field surveys and code research.
    • Applies engineering principles to resolve engineering problems and tasks assigned.
  • Develops and implements design criteria and system designs from concept through detailed design and construction.
    • Collaborates with and mentors subordinate staff regarding their responsibilities on a daily basis.
    • Continuously seeks to improve and is self-teachable.

  • The SE is a Structural Designer:
    • Implements criteria and researches applicable codes, and investigates structural systems.
    • Understands using design tools such as the IBC and referenced codes.
    • Coordinates and implements the structural system with other team members within the discipline, as well as project team members in other disciplines.
    • Proficient with design drawing software including Revit and AutoCAD.
    • Performs system calculations. Sizes and selects system components.
    • Reviews shop drawing submittals, and travels to job sites to perform field verification.
    • Produces field reports and punch lists.
  • The SE develops organizational skills including technical writing and time management:
    • Uses excellent writing skills to author basis of design (BOD) narratives, design criteria documents, feasibility studies, condition assessment reports, engineering studies and reports, and other high quality highly technical written documents as needed.
    • Uses excellent writing skills to edit design specifications; respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) incorporating information from project documents, specifications,
    • Reviews shop drawings and submittals to evaluate compliance with applicable codes, project specifications, and design documents and criteria.
    • Prepares meeting notes.
    • Reads relevant project correspondence and maintains project design files.
    • Demonstrates willingness to work to meet deadlines as required by client demands.

Minimum Requirements
The Structural Engineer shall meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience (post degree)
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License (required) and Structural Engineer (SE) License (preferred but not required)
  • Current/Active NCEES registration in good standing
  • Operational Experience in both REVIT and AutoCAD
  • Excellent Communication skills, both oral and written
  • This is a remote position or can be a hybrid position for local residents who desire to work in an office environment
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S.
