Position Overview

We are seeking an Architectural Specifications Writer to support the development of construction contract specifications and provide technical guidance for architectural project documentation. This remote-based role will collaborate closely with project architects and the broader design team to ensure accurate, coordinated, and highโ€‘quality specifications.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Assist in developing contract specifications based on the design direction, documentation, and guidance provided by the Architect.
  • Evaluate and recommend alternative materials and systems where appropriate, providing written commentary for Architect review.
  • Prepare preliminary written addenda, as needed, to clarify or complete the Architectural Specifications.
  • Stay current with new building products, system developments, construction methods, code changes, and industry trends.
  • Prepare and send coordination memos outlining required information from each project team member prior to developing specifications.
  • Provide clarification on issued specification documents during design and construction phases, as required.

What Youโ€™ll Bring

Required:

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience preparing architectural specifications.
  • Experience in Construction Administration, including project startup through closeout, is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong organization and analytical capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of construction materials and methods, building codes, regulations, industry standards, MasterFormat, and common project delivery methods.
  • Ability to self-organize and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or Construction Management.
  • Experience across a diverse range of project types.
  • Professional certifications such as LEED or Certified Construction Specifier (CCS).
  • Passive House and/or Living Building Challenge certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of zeroโ€‘emissions strategies including carbon reduction, netโ€‘zero energy readiness, sustainability frameworks, and resilience planning.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • This is a remote position with standard working hours Monday-Friday, 9am โ€“ 5pm EST.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $95,000 โ€“ $100,000, based on knowledge, skills, and experience.
