Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Power BI / Tableau Analytics Consultant with healthcare industry experience to support a time-sensitive analytics initiative! The primary responsibility will be to convert complex Tableau reports and dashboards into Power BI, ensuring functionality, accuracy, and performance are maintained throughout the migration. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in both Tableau and Power BI, with demonstrated expertise translating Tableau Level of Detail (LOD) calculations into Power BI DAX with a strong background in healthcare data and KPI frameworks, and a proven ability to translate complex business requirements into performant, intuitive dashboards. This engagement is central to our strategic initiative to migrate our existing library of Tableau dashboards to Microsoft Power BI, while simultaneously upskilling our internal Analytics team to be self-sufficient in Power BI going forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Convert complex Tableau reports, dashboards, and analytics into Power BI, preserving business logic, visual fidelity, and performance.
  • Translate Tableau LOD (Level of Detail) expressions, table calculations, and complex calculated fields into equivalent DAX measures, calculated columns, and Power BI data models.
  • Analyze existing Tableau dashboards and determine the appropriate Power BI architecture and functionality needed for conversion.
  • Recreate complex calculations, metrics, filters, visualizations, and reporting logic within Power BI.
  • Ensure converted dashboards are accurate, efficient, scalable, and performant.
  • Collaborate with the analytics team and business stakeholders to understand existing reporting requirements.
  • Troubleshoot discrepancies between Tableau and Power BI outputs.
  • Audit the existing Tableau environment, document dashboard specifications, and develop a structured migration plan with clear milestones.
  • Optimize Power BI data models including star/snowflake schemas, relationships, and incremental refresh strategies.
  • Ensure all migrated dashboards meet healthcare data governance, privacy, and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA considerations).
  • Design and develop Power BI dashboards focused on healthcare KPIs such as patient outcomes, operational efficiency, utilization rates, readmissions, and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, and financial stakeholders to validate KPI definitions and ensure dashboards deliver actionable insights.
  • Implement row-level security (RLS) and appropriate data access controls for sensitive healthcare datasets.

Top Skills:

  • 6+ years of experience in Microsoft Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service (cloud) with advanced DAX skills including time intelligence, CALCULATE, FILTER, iterators (SUMX, AVERAGEX), variables, and virtual tables
  • 6+ years of experience in Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server/Online experience with expert knowledge of Tableau LOD expressions (FIXED, INCLUDE, EXCLUDE) and their Power BI DAX equivalents
  • 3+ years of recent experience working with healthcare data, including clinical, operational, financial, and/or population health datasets
  • Healthcare quality/operational metrics experience (HEDIS/STARS, utilization, care management, population health, etc.)
  • Demonstrable experience building and maintaining healthcare KPI dashboards
