Job description


I. Job Summary
Identify, develop, and advance mid-size acquisition opportunities while supporting Tier Business Development Vice President and Area Business Development efforts and increasing overall deal flow across the Tier. Focused on expanding the opportunity pipeline and pursuing larger or more strategic opportunities while complementing local Area ownership and relationships.

Experienced business development professional with strong acquisition sourcing skills and broader regional market visibility. Works with Tiers and across Areas to identify and develop medium and larger opportunities and helps increase overall deal flow.

This position is Remote, but must reside within the Eastern half of the United States. This position requires up to 70% travel.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned as needed. 

  • Assists with quarterly business development M&A growth plans by assessing core acquisition opportunities
  • Proactively source and cultivate medium and larger acquisition opportunities across multiple Areas
  • Develop and maintain relationships with owners, brokers, advisors, and industry contacts
  • Partner with Area Business Development Leads to identify, evaluate, and advance opportunities
  • Maintain visibility across the entire deal portfolio and proactively remove execution barriers

  • Help maintain a healthy acquisition pipeline and increase the number of opportunities entering the funnel
  • Support early-stage opportunity assessment, prioritization, and transaction strategy
  • Facilitate coordination and knowledge sharing across Areas within the Tier
  • Assesses geographic opportunities with Market, SWOT and competitor analysis
     


III. Supervisory Responsibilities
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is supporting the Area Business Development team members.

IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with at least 8 years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


B. Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master's Degree and 8 years of related experience. Experience in waste or energy related industry
  • 10+ years related experience in M&A or Corporate Development
  • Experience in waste or energy related industry
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial statements, pro formas,  and legal documents
  • Knowledge of WM  offerings
  • Ability to present information to WM's Area and Corporate leadership teams, Sellers and their advisors
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish fact and draw valid conclusion

Pay: The expected base pay range for this position across the U.S. is $152,400 - $236,700 . This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for bonus.
