What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Building Science Specialist, and why are they important?

A strong foundation in building physics, energy modeling, and construction principles, often supported by a degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field, is essential for a Remote Building Science Specialist. Familiarity with technical tools such as energy simulation software (e.g., EnergyPlus, WUFI), CAD programs, and certifications like LEED or BPI is typically required. Outstanding analytical thinking, communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills, especially when collaborating remotely with multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure accurate assessments, effective solutions, and successful project outcomes in the evolving field of sustainable building design and performance.

How does a Remote Building Science professional typically collaborate with on-site teams during a project?

Remote Building Science professionals often work closely with on-site teams by leveraging digital tools such as video conferencing, BIM software, and cloud-based documentation. They are responsible for analyzing building performance data, providing recommendations, and ensuring that sustainability and energy efficiency goals are met. Effective communication and regular virtual meetings are key to maintaining alignment between remote experts and field personnel. Establishing clear protocols for data sharing and feedback helps ensure smooth collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.

What is a Remote Building Science professional?

A Remote Building Science professional is an expert who analyzes and improves building performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort—often using digital tools and remote technologies. They may conduct virtual assessments, review building plans, model energy use, and recommend improvements, all without being physically present at the project site. Their work helps ensure buildings are safe, healthy, and environmentally sustainable, using a mix of engineering, architecture, and environmental science principles. This role is particularly important for organizations seeking to optimize buildings across multiple locations or during times when in-person site visits are challenging.

Job description

Oncology MSL Manager

Natera is a clinical genetic testing company using our proprietary cell-free DNA (cfDNA) platform to help oncology patients make earlier, better-informed decisions. As an Oncology MSL Manager, you will lead a regional team of field-based Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) focused on scientific engagement for Signatera, our personalized, tumor-informed minimal residual disease (MRD) test. This role requires a blend of scientific rigor and operational urgency to help clinicians change the management of disease worldwide.

The Manager operates with a high degree of ownership, translating strategy into clear direction for the field team while partnering cross-functionally to support Natera's oncology diagnostics. This role is accountable for team performance, field execution, and alignment with Medical Affairs priorities. The MSL Manager ensures MSLs are effectively engaging healthcare providers, generating actionable insights, and delivering accurate genetic testing insights to clinicians when timing matters most for patient outcomes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead, develop, and manage a regional team of MSLs, with clear accountability for performance and results.

  • Provide consistent coaching through regular 1:1s, field co-travel, and structured performance feedback.

  • Own onboarding, training, and ongoing development of MSL team members.

  • Assess individual performance and implement development or corrective action plans as needed.

  • Support team engagement, retention, and ongoing professional development.

Field Execution & Territory Oversight

  • Ensure consistent, high-quality scientific engagement across the region aligned to Medical Affairs priorities.

  • Maintain strong visibility into regional activities, key accounts, and KOL engagement.

  • Ensure appropriate field coverage to support clinical engagement, commercial team alignment, and educational initiatives.

  • Guide MSLs in prioritizing field activities and managing competing stakeholder demands.

  • Act as a resource for MSLs on complex or high-stakes field engagements.

Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with commercial and regional leadership to ensure everyone pulls in the same direction for patient care while maintaining scientific integrity.

  • Support MSLs in building strong, collaborative relationships with regional and area stakeholders.

  • Participate in cross-functional planning and collaboration with Medical Affairs leadership and regional teams.

  • Ensure effective communication and alignment between field activities and organizational priorities.

Performance & Insights

  • Use data and field insights to keep the team accountable, moving fast, and focused on patient impact.

  • Drive accountability for documentation, insights, and engagement quality across the team.

  • Aggregate and communicate key field insights, including clinical trends, competitive dynamics, and unmet needs.

  • Identify performance gaps and implement targeted improvements across the team.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain proficiency in the role of an MSL, including the ability to support scientific discussions as needed.

  • Travel up to 40% for field engagement, co-travel, and conferences.

  • Adapt quickly to emerging field and clinical needs to support the oncology portfolio.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced scientific or healthcare degree required (PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent)

  • 4–8+ years of Medical Affairs or MSL experience

  • Prior experience managing or leading teams strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated success operating in a field-based, cross-functional environment

  • Must reside within assigned region

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proven ability to lead and develop field-based teams, driving performance and accountability

  • Strong ability to translate strategy into clear direction and execution for field teams

  • Demonstrated ability to manage performance using data, metrics, and field insights

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly with Commercial, Marketing, and Clinical teams

  • Thrive and lead without rigid structure, operating with a sense of urgency to solve problems and advance clinical adoption

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to address complex field challenges

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey complex scientific information clearly

  • High level of independence, accountability, and sound judgment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This is a remote position, and often work requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking. Daily use of a computer is required. May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking long distances. Ability to travel is required.

  • This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.

  • Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) based on field flexibility needs.

  • Employees must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training, and security training within the first 30 days of hire.

  • Must maintain current status on Natera training requirements.

  • Reasonable accommodation is available for individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
