Job description

Job Title: Component Engineer, Nuclear Type: Contract Compensation: $52 - $85 hourly Contractor Work Model: Remote

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Component Engineer to support component design efforts in the nuclear sector. This position will be instrumental in executing mechanical piping and pressure vessel component design, ensuring adherence to the high standards of safety and quality expected in the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed mechanical design and verification of component specifications per the ASME BPVC Section III, focusing on subsections NB, NG, and NF.
  • Perform critical dimension and functional limit analyses to ensure compliance with design standards.
  • Develop and specify joint design standards and criteria for subcomponent integration.
  • Select and specify gaskets and seals to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Participate in the qualification indoctrination to the quality program, supporting both preparation and verification activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to foster an environment of teamwork and open communication.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5-10 years of relevant engineering experience in the nuclear or heavy industrial sectors. An advanced degree may be used to partially substitute for experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; status as a Certifying Engineer qualified to ASME Sect III, Mandatory Appendix XXIII, for reactor support components (Subsection NF) is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • A high degree of integrity and respect for confidentiality.

Working Conditions:

  • This role may require sitting or standing for extended periods, with tasks including bending, grasping, and fine motor control.
  • Minimal physical exertion is required, with the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Standard work environment of more than 8 hours a day, including periods of focused visual and auditory work.
  • Some travel (approximately 15%) may be required for meetings.
