Job Description

Turnitin is a pioneer in education technology with its roots in academic integrity, delivering flexible assessment solutions to higher education institutions, high schools, and graduate programs. With the broadest and deepest applications of AI for education, Turnitin is building innovative new products for the next decade of education. We are seeking an experienced researcher to help us increase our velocity in delivering knowledge, products, and capabilities that help educational institutions empower student outcomes with academic integrity. As a UX Researcher, you will be responsible for creating clear, user-centered product content and contributing to content decisions across the end-to-end product development process. You will collaborate closely with product and engineering partners as well as the cross-functional UX team. 

To succeed in this role, you must have a solid foundation in UX and technical writing practices and be able to connect content decisions to user needs, product goals, and business outcomes. You thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment where requirements can change. Our environment requires good judgment, knowing when to move quickly with clear, practical content and when to spend more time exploring, testing, and aligning on the right content approach.

A day in the life:

The UX Writer will work closely with designers, researchers, product managers, and other stakeholders on a day-to-day basis. They will write, review, and refine product content across the user experience, from interface copy and onboarding to product guidance. They will use user experience outcomes, product context, and content principles to make complex experiences clearer, more consistent, and easier to use. They will work closely within the UX Writing team, where every work day is full of collaboration, curiosity, and shared commitment to creating meaningful product experiences.

Responsibilities: 

  • Write clear, concise UX copy for product experiences, including UI text, error messages, and onboarding.
  • Create and improve user guidance and release notes
  • Collaborate with UX Designers and Product Managers throughout the design process, offering copy and content feedback from early concepts through delivery.
  • Apply UX writing principles, style guidance, accessibility considerations, and user research to your content decisions.
  • Explain the reasoning behind content choices to stakeholders clearly and confidently.
  • Manage project-level feedback loops with stakeholders and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Use Jira to track, prioritize, and deliver work within a structured sprint process.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Writing, Technical Communication, Human-Computer Interaction, UX Design, Linguistics, Communications, Education, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2–7 years of industry experience in UX writing, technical writing, or related fields (e.g., education, communications, product management)
  • Proven experience writing and improving user-centred product content, including interface copy, guidance, onboarding, and other content that supports clear, usable product experiences
  • Strong writing skills, with excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance multiple project work tracks across different product surfaces
  • Demonstrated ability to transform data-driven insights into actionable content recommendations that directly influence product decisions
  • Confident working with multiple stakeholders asking good questions and managing feedback.
  • Experience working with project tracking tools such as Jira and working in an Agile methodology setup.
  • A strong writing portfolio that demonstrates multiple methods and approaches to writing along with the tangible outcomes and impact of the work.

Desirable 

  • Experience working with CMSs such as Zendesk and creating structured content using HTML markup.
  • Experience in writing for and around AI powered products.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with a knack for building relationships and influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Proven track record of collaborating effectively in a diverse team environment.

Additional Information

The expected annual base salary range for this position is: $75,803/year to $126,338/year. This position is bonus eligible.

Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if extended, and is determined by work location and a range of other relevant factors, including but not limited to: experience, skills, degrees, licensures, certifications, and other job-related factors. Internal equity, market and organizational factors are also considered.
