SUMMARY
Ouzinkie Native Corporation (ONC) is seeking a motivated and self-directed individual to support the maintenance and operation of corporation-owned assets located at a remote logging camp on Afognak Island, Alaska. This seasonal position supports the upkeep of ONC facilities, infrastructure, equipment, housing units, and shareholder-use roadway access within a remote camp environment.
The logging camp is operated by a third-party contractor responsible for day-to-day industrial logging camp operations. This position works independently alongside existing camp personnel while focusing specifically on the maintenance, operation, and upkeep of ONC-owned assets and shareholder-use infrastructure.
The role is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, adaptable to changing operational demands, comfortable operating and maintaining equipment, and capable of working independently in an isolated environment for extended periods of time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform general maintenance and repair duties related to ONC-owned facilities, housing units, infrastructure, equipment, and operational assets within the camp.
  • Perform maintenance activities involving framing, drywall, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general construction.
  • Operate and maintain corporation-owned equipment, including a mid-sized (50 HP) four-wheel drive tractor with hydraulically operated boom-mounted mower, brush cutters, hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.
  • Perform roadside vegetation management and brush cutting activities along logging roads and shareholder-use access routes.
  • Maintain roadway access for shareholder subsistence activities, seasonal access, and general property use.
  • Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment, facilities, tools, and related infrastructure.
  • Coordinate day-to-day maintenance priorities with camp maintenance personnel while maintaining focus on ONC-owned assets and shareholder-use infrastructure.
  • Perform general property, grounds, and facility maintenance activities as needed.
  • Safely operate equipment, tools, and vehicles in accordance with company procedures and safety requirements.
  • Identify and report maintenance concerns, equipment issues, operational hazards, and safety risks.
  • Maintain work areas, equipment, tools, and storage locations in a clean and organized condition.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following all camp safety requirements, company policies, operational procedures, and applicable environmental and safety regulations.
  • Work independently with limited supervision in a remote outdoor environment for extended periods of time.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with camp maintenance and operating tractors, brush cutters, roadside brushing equipment, heavy equipment, vegetation management equipment, or similar machinery in remote or outdoor operational environments.
  • Demonstrated experience performing general maintenance and basic mechanical repair work.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate tractors, brush cutters, hand tools, power tools, and related equipment while consistently following workplace safety procedures, company policies, and operational requirements in a remote environment.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Successful completion of background screening requirements.
  • Ability to comply with company drug and alcohol policies, including random drug testing requirements permitted by applicable law.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Previous experience in remote camp environments, construction, maintenance, logging, farming, or equipment operations preferred.
  • Agricultural, forestry, construction, maintenance, or outdoor operational background.
  • Vocational training or trade certifications related to maintenance, construction, or equipment operation.
  • Mechanical aptitude and preventative maintenance experience.
  • Strong communication, dependability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable work style in remote working conditions.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others as operational needs require.

EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

WORK SCHEDULE
  • Seasonal full-time position.
  • The successful applicant should expect to remain on-site for approximately 4 months during the summer season.
  • Work schedules may include weekends, extended shifts, holidays, and overtime based on operational needs, weather conditions, and project demands.

DRIVING REQUIREMENT
  • Must have or be able to attain a valid state driver's license and be insurable on the company's automobile insurance policy.
  • The expected driving time is up to 50%.

TRAVEL
  • Transportation to and from the remote camp location on Afognak Island at the beginning and end of the seasonal assignment will be provided by the company.
  • Housing and access to necessary tools and equipment will be provided while on-site.
  • Employees choosing to leave the assignment location during the seasonal work period for personal reasons are responsible for arranging and covering associated transportation costs.
  • Travel by small aircraft, boat, off-road vehicle, or similar transportation methods may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work on uneven terrain.
  • Frequently required to push, pull, lift, carry, and move tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently required to operate tractors, power tools, hand tools, and mechanical equipment.
  • Work may involve exposure to insects, wildlife, loud noise, dust, vibration, and moving mechanical equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is performed in a remote camp and outdoor environment on Afognak Island, Alaska.
  • Work is performed outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions common to remote Alaska operations, including rain, mud, wind, uneven terrain, cold and hot temperatures, mechanical hazards, noise, dust, insects, and wildlife, including bears.
  • Meals are provided onsite during the seasonal assignment.
  • Onsite housing and access to necessary tools and equipment are provided during the seasonal assignment.
  • Work may involve exposure to toxic, caustic, or hazardous chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, and other environmental hazards associated with maintenance and equipment operation activities.
  • Employees are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing job duties.
