What is a Remote Biotechnology Bioinformatics job?

A Remote Biotechnology Bioinformatics job involves using computational tools and techniques to analyze biological data, such as DNA, RNA, and protein sequences, from a remote location. Professionals in this field often work for biotechnology companies, research institutions, or healthcare organizations, collaborating with scientists to interpret complex datasets and develop solutions for biological problems. These roles typically require strong skills in programming, data analysis, and knowledge of biological sciences. Working remotely allows bioinformaticians to contribute to global research projects and innovations in biotechnology without being tied to a specific physical location.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Biotechnology Bioinformatics professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Biotechnology Bioinformatics professional, you need a solid background in molecular biology, computational biology, and statistics, often supported by a degree in bioinformatics or a related field. Proficiency with programming languages like Python or R, bioinformatics tools (such as BLAST, GATK), and data analysis platforms is typically required. Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are vital for collaborating remotely and interpreting complex biological data. These skills enable accurate data analysis, meaningful scientific insights, and successful remote teamwork in the biotechnology sector.

What is the difference between Remote Biotechnology Bioinformatics vs Remote Computational Biologist?

AspectRemote Biotechnology BioinformaticsRemote Computational Biologist
Required CredentialsBachelor's/Master's in Bioinformatics, Biology, or related fields; experience with bioinformatics toolsPhD or Master's in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related disciplines; strong programming skills
Work EnvironmentRemote, collaborative teams in biotech or pharma companiesRemote, research-focused, often in academic or biotech settings
Industry UsageCommon in biotech, pharmaceutical, and healthcare industriesUsed in research institutions, biotech, and pharma for data analysis

Remote Biotechnology Bioinformatics roles focus on analyzing biological data using bioinformatics tools, often requiring a bachelor's or master's degree. Remote Computational Biologists typically hold a PhD and engage in complex data modeling and algorithm development. Both roles are remote and industry-specific but differ in educational requirements and research depth.

How does a remote Biotechnology Bioinformatics professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams?

Remote Biotechnology Bioinformatics professionals regularly collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including scientists, data analysts, and software engineers, using digital communication tools like Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms. They participate in virtual meetings to discuss project progress, troubleshoot technical challenges, and align on research objectives. Effective documentation and transparent communication are essential for sharing data, code, and findings, ensuring seamless integration of bioinformatics insights into broader research and development efforts. Building strong professional relationships remotely can be a challenge, but proactive communication and regular check-ins help foster teamwork and productivity.

Job description

About the company
Deep Origin is a biotech startup building an operating system for science that transforms how life science research is conducted. Led by Michael Antonov, co-founder of Oculus, and backed by Formic Ventures, we are redefining the infrastructure behind modern drug discovery. Our AI-driven platform enables scientists to accelerate discovery, reduce cost, and bring breakthrough innovations to life faster. As we scale, overall excellence is a critical lever in advancing our mission to dramatically reduce disease and extend human healthspan.
About the role
We are seeking a VP of Product to fully own, define, build, and scale all of our products and services across the enterprise, including software and services designed for early-stage drug discovery. This role owns product strategy and execution end-to-end from vision and roadmap through launch, iteration, and long-term platform evolution.
You will work cross-functionally with engineering, AI/ML, scientists, drug discovery experts, and commercial teams to translate complex scientific workflows into an intuitive, scalable, and high-impact platform for biotech and pharmaceutical customers.
This role requires both strategic thinking and hands-on execution in a fast-moving startup environment.
Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
Requirements
  • 7 - 10+ years of product management experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as Lead/Manager/VP.
  • Experience building B2B or enterprise SaaS products.
  • Experience launching products from early discovery through post-launch iteration.
  • Strong understanding of early-stage drug discovery, including the market, user needs, and the processes.
  • Experience building products for highly technical or analytical users.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills.
  • Ability to drive clarity in ambiguous, fast-paced startup environments.

Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Vision
    • Own and define the product vision, roadmap, and execution strategy for our core platform.
    • Shape the long-term direction of the platform in bioinformatics, AI-driven workflows, and drug discovery tooling.
    • Define and monitor key product and business success metrics.
    • Translate customer needs into scalable platform capabilities.

Customer & Market Leadership
    • Engage regularly with customers (biotech, pharma, academia, government) to deeply understand workflows and unmet needs.
    • Identify opportunities for differentiation and competitive advantage.
    • Drive go-to-market alignment in partnership with commercial teams.

Platform & Execution
    • Lead product development for all products from ideation to launch (zero to one) and post-launch iteration.
    • Partner with engineering and AI teams to deliver high-impact features.
    • Jointly work with marketing and sales/commercial teams to establish and execute a winning go-to-market strategy

Cross-Functional Leadership
    • Build, manage, and coach a team of product managers (as the company scales).
    • Drive clarity across engineering, design, science, and business stakeholders.
    • Lead roadmap planning, milestone alignment, and stakeholder consensus.
    • Influence without authority in a highly technical environment.

Organizational Impact
    • Help define product organization structure and best practices.
    • Establish scalable product processes for a growing company.
    • Navigate ambiguity and bring structured thinking to complex problems.

Values & Working Style
  • Ownership mindset - you take responsibility for building and improving systems that enable people and teams to perform at their best.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • Strong collaborator who partners effectively with executives, managers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Pragmatic and impact-driven, focused on building solutions that scale with the organization.

Why This Role Matters Now
Deep Origin is entering a phase where our scientific platform, engineering organization, and commercial capabilities must scale simultaneously. Building a leadership infrastructure that can support this growth is critical.
VP of Product will play a critical role in defining and executing our product strategy. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, data science, and business development, to drive product innovation and deliver exceptional solutions to our customers.
