Our approach to R&D

The Respiratory, Immunology and Inflammation Research Unit (RIIRU) was formed in 2024 to identify and advance novel molecular targets with genetic associations to disease based on the foundational observation that targets with human genetic evidence supporting their causal role in the intended indication improves clinical success by two-fold. The remit of RIIRU is to identify novel targets based on human genetics, develop assets for clinical studies, and perform trials through to submission for approvals. This goal is enabled through strategic external (e.g., Flagship Pioneering, Vesalius, Muna Therapeutics and others) and GSK-internal partnerships (Research Technologies).


Position Summary:

You will be a key member of the Digital Medicine team, shaping strategy and delivery of digital tools that support development and safe use of medicines. You will work across research, clinical development, regulatory, data science and commercial teams. We seek a collaborative leader who combines scientific rigor with product thinking and strong people skills. Responsibilities:
This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:


- Define and lead digital medicine strategies for clinical programs and studies across Respiratory, Immunology and Inflammation that support program and clinical study objectives and patient needs.
- Guide cross-functional teams to design, develop and validate digital biomarkers, digital endpoints, and digital measures to inform internal decision-making and better demonstrate the impact of our medicines.

- Identify connected-device and other digital medicine solutions including AI opportunities with the potential to make GSK's clinical trials more efficient, cost-effective, and patient-centric through enhanced evidence generation. Contribute to building business cases for the development and/or deployment of these new solutions.
- Collaborate with key partners and expert functions (e.g. clinical development, regulatory, safety and data teams) to ensure scientific and regulatory rigor for digital medicine approaches.
- Identify, engage and oversee external partnerships to accelerate capability and delivery.

- Upskill clinical study teams (and wider GSK organization) on digital medicine solutions, enhancing their understanding on the opportunities for adoption and value generation.
- Champion pragmatic evidence generation and implementation plans to enable adoption by clinical teams and health systems.

We are seeking professionals with the following required skills and qualifications to help us achieve our goals:


- Advanced degree (MSc, PhD, MD, PharmD) or equivalent experience in life sciences, clinical research, biomedical engineering, data science or a related discipline.
- Experience in clinical development, digital health, translational medicine or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience leading digital medicine, digital health product development, or digital biomarker programs.
- Proven track record of working across complex, matrixed organizations and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Experience with regulatory interactions or submissions involving digital endpoints, software as a medical device, or related topics.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary matrix teams, including scientists, clinicians, engineers and data scientists.

- Excellent communication skills, able to build clarity from ambiguity. Strong influencing and senior stakeholder management skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

- Strong scientific and medical understanding of Respiratory, Immunology and/or Inflammation Therapy Areas, with hands-on experience in designing or operationalizing clinical trials in these Therapeutic Areas
- Experience with real-world evidence, remote clinical trials, or decentralized trial approaches.
- Knowledge of clinical validation methods for digital biomarkers and familiarity with relevant guidance from major health authorities.
- Strong product management experience or experience translating scientific concepts into user-centered products.
- Experience with device connectivity, mobile apps, wearables, sensors or interoperable health data standards.

- Well-developed project management skills, including handling vendors, budgets, timelines and risks.

If you are based in Cambridge, MA; Waltham, MA; Rockville, MD; or San Francisco, CA, the annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges $173,250 to $288,750. If you are based in another US location, the annual base salary range is $157,500 to $262,500. The US salary ranges take into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate's skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role. Available benefits include health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave. If salary ranges are not displayed in the job posting for a specific country, the relevant compensation will be discussed during the recruitment process.
