Job Summary
Battelle is seeking a Director, Bioinformatics within our Health Research and Analytics Business Line. The position location can be remote with preference for Crystal City, VA or Columbus, OH on a hybrid schedule. Periodic travel to Columbus, OH and the Washington, DC area is required.
As a Director, Bioinformatics, you are responsible for leading and growing the Division's work in Bioinformatics and related sciences including, but not limited to biomedical, computational toxicology, computational biology, and Artificial Intelligence. This role serves as the lead for capturing, winning, and executing contracts totaling $50M+, where you could be proposed as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Project Manager (PM). You are also a key staff for coaching and mentoring team members on shaping, structural, organizational, and partnership requirements to win $50M+, and $100M+ awards.
Responsibilities
  • Recognized expertise in program leadership of Bioinformatics with AI integration experience.
  • Proven track record in successfully capturing $20M+ opportunities for federal contracts AND developing the teams and processes to grow capture excellence.
  • Expertise in managing a portfolio of programs totaling $50M+ according to federal requirements and at "exceptional" levels of program execution.
  • Knowledge of federal market and competitive landscape across both DoD and civilian health agencies
  • Proven ability to take complex technical and scientific concepts and turn them into clear and concise verbal and written forms.
  • Demonstrated understanding of capture processes to win new business including: the gate review process; developing a capture strategy; planning capture milestones, managing a capture team, ensuring the capture is executed on schedule and budget, identifying and bringing on partners and teammates, and identifying/mitigating risks to the capture.
  • For proposal efforts, ensure timely development and delivery of compliant, responsive, innovative and integrated technical solutions and management approaches that are competitive and cost effective.
  • Passion and drive to constantly need to improve your skill set
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written and with all levels of management
  • Ability to speak to customers at varying levels of technical knowledge and explain mission value of products and services
  • Ability to work individually and in small fast-paced team environments

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree bioinformatics or Technical field; at least 12 years of experience demonstrating progressive responsibility in business development, program management or technical management; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of health and biomedical analytics concepts, technologies, and use cases, specifically utilizing new or cutting-edge approaches to the use of artificial intelligence for predictive and advanced analytics
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or higher, preferably in Bioinformatics or similar professional experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance
