Pay: Competitive, based on experience $130,000-$175,000 no bonus

Work Schedule: Hybrid (3 days onsite: Tuesday–Thursday; 2 days remote: Monday & Friday)

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Controller to direct all core accounting operations, financial reporting, payroll, and internal control frameworks. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance/CFO, this position supervises accounting personnel, ensures policy compliance, and leads financial statement preparation, audits, and budgetary planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain precision across the general ledger, account reconciliations, billing, collections, AP/AR, cash management, and payroll processes.
  • Establish and uphold accounting policies aligned with non-profit standards and best practices.
  • Manage financial and accounting staff, overseeing daily system activities and team workflows.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close routines, journal entries, and multi-period financial statement preparation.
  • Coordinate external audits for annual financial reviews, retirement plans, and non-profit tax filings.
  • Support board-level financial reporting in coordination with investment advisors and the Finance Committee.
  • Partner with the CFO on annual budget design, operational cash forecasting, and financial analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • 5+ years of direct supervisory or management experience.
  • Knowledge of federal and state non-profit filing and tax compliance requirements.
  • Strong systems background with proficiency in Excel and ERP platforms (Sage and Paylocity experience preferred).
  • Communication, math, and analytical skills.
