Job description

ON.energy is seeking a Process & Strategy Engineer to serve as the operational backbone of the Engineering team within our rapidly scaling Data Center BESS division. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, program management, and business operations - translating the team's technical work into measurable outcomes, structured processes, and compelling executive-level communications.

The ideal candidate brings an engineering foundation paired with demonstrated experience in process improvement, strategy execution, or technical program/project management. You thrive on creating order, visibility, and efficiency - and can communicate complex engineering performance to senior leadership with clarity and precision.

Location: Tysons, Virginia (Hybrid), Houston, TX (Hybrid), United States (Remote)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering Metrics & Performance Tracking

  • Define, develop, and maintain a comprehensive metrics framework for the Engineering team, spanning project delivery, resource utilization, quality, and throughput.
  • Own the collection, validation, and analysis of engineering performance data on a recurring cadence.
  • Design and manage dashboards and reporting tools that provide leadership with real-time visibility into team output and health.
  • Identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities from metrics data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.

Executive Presentations & Management Reporting

  • Build high-quality, executive-ready presentations that communicate team performance, project status, strategic initiatives, and key decisions to senior leadership and the C-suite.
  • Partner with the VP of Engineering to structure quarterly business reviews, project milestone reports, and cross-functional briefings.
  • Develop a consistent storytelling framework that connects engineering activity to business outcomes - delivery timelines, cost, risk, and client impact.
  • Maintain a library of presentation templates and reporting formats for repeatable, efficient communication.

Processes & Standard Operating Procedures

  • Design, document, and implement engineering workflows and standard operating procedures (SOPs) that improve consistency, quality, and efficiency across the team.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives by identifying friction points in current workflows and facilitating structured solutions.
  • Establish change management practices to ensure new processes are effectively adopted across Engineering and Document Control functions.
  • Maintain a living library of engineering process documentation, ensuring version control and accessibility for the team.

Training Materials & Team Enablement

  • Develop onboarding and role-specific training materials for engineering team members, including guides, reference documents, visual aids, and instructional content.
  • Translate complex technical procedures and workflows into accessible training content appropriate for various levels of engineering experience.
  • Coordinate with technical leads to ensure training materials accurately reflect current tools, systems, and standards in use.
  • Support continuous learning initiatives aligned with the team's growth trajectory and evolving project demands.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering environment, with a meaningful transition into process engineering, strategy, technical program management, or engineering operations.
  • Exceptional PowerPoint skills - demonstrated ability to create polished, executive-ready presentations for technical and operational content.
  • Strong analytical ability; comfortable working with metrics, performance data, and KPIs to drive insights and decisions.
  • Experience developing and documenting engineering processes, SOPs, or operational frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical executive audiences.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in energy storage, power systems, electrical infrastructure, or data center environments.
  • Familiarity with ESS technologies, MV/LV power systems, or UPS architecture is a strong advantage.
  • Background in PMP, Six Sigma, Lean, or other structured process/project management methodologies.
  • Experience supporting or building engineering onboarding programs or technical training curricula.
