Job description

About Humach:
Humach is reinventing customer experience with emotionally intelligent AI agents. As the creators of the world's most customer-centric digital workforce, we blend cutting-edge LLMs, voice biometrics, and intelligent orchestration into real-time service solutions. Backed by top partners and ambitious clients, we're scaling fast and need talented engineers to help us deliver impact.
Role Overview:
As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) at Humach, you will work at the intersection of software engineering, applied AI, and real-world deployments. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building, configuring, and deploying AI agents and supporting systems into production environments.
You will work closely with senior engineers, product, and data teams to implement agent workflows, integrate models and tools, and ensure solutions are reliable, scalable, and maintainable.
This is not a sales engineering or demo role. You will write production code and own real systems.
This is a fully remote position open to candidates who currently reside in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas, Florida, New Jersey, Michigan, and Minnesota.
What You'll Do:
  • Build and deploy AI agents using large language models (LLMs).
  • Implement backend services and APIs to support agent workflows.
  • Develop and refine prompts, tools, and context strategies for agent reliability.
  • Configure and extend agent orchestration (state management, tool calling, memory).
  • Integrate third-party services and AI platforms (e.g., voice, speech-to-text, messaging).
  • Deploy and operate services in AWS, including monitoring and basic DevOps workflows.
  • Work on real customer problems with incomplete requirements and iterate toward solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers to learn system design and production patterns.

What You Bring:
  • 2-4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong backend engineering skills (Python and/or TypeScript).
  • Experience building APIs, services, or event-driven systems in production.
  • Hands-on experience working in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
  • Familiarity with modern AI platforms and services, including LLM providers and voice/speech systems (e.g., ElevenLabs, OpenAI, Whisper, similar).
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and external services into production systems.
  • Comfort working across code, configuration, prompts, and infrastructure.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous problem spaces and iterate toward working solutions.
  • Strong ownership mindset and bias toward shipping real systems.

Bonus Points:
  • Direct experience building or deploying LLM-powered applications.
  • Experience with agent frameworks, orchestration layers, or tool-calling systems.
  • Experience with voice, conversational AI, or real-time systems.
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, or production monitoring.
  • Experience with contact center platforms (AWS Connect, NICE, Genesys).

Mindset & Values:
  • Ownership: You take responsibility for your work and outcomes.
  • Bias for Action: You move quickly, iterate, and deliver value fast, prioritizing progress over perfection.
  • Customer-Centricity: You work directly with teams to deeply understand user needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Learning Agility: You thrive in ambiguity and are passionate about learning and adapting.
  • Pain-to-Product: You turn hard problems and challenges into innovative deliverables.
  • Collaboration & Impact: You work well with others and aim to make a meaningful impact beyond your immediate scope.

Humach offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including medical, dental, 401k, life insurance, paid time off and much more.
Humach is an equal opportunity employer. We provide equal opportunity to all applicants based on qualifications, regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability, pregnancy or childbirth, veteran status, genetic information, citizenship, or any other group protected by federal, state, or local laws and regulations.
