Primary Responsibilities:

Staff DevOps and Systems Integration Engineer serves as an emerging subject matter expert, while serving as an individual contributor that exhibits a high level of trust, autonomy and empowerment. With minimal oversight from leadership, you will be responsible for leading and monitoring the ability to meet scope, schedule and delivery requirements and may support adjacent programs with the business unit. A Staff DevOps and Systems Integration Engineer exhibits strong influential skills to represent the software engineering practice in planning sessions, advocating for the best technical solution, while communicating tradeoffs. You will serve as the primary lead and proactively communicate with stakeholders; while utilizing strong influential skills to drive improvements in software engineering, systems integration and DevOps processes and practices. Primary expectations of a Staff DevOps and Systems Integration Engineer include:

  • Design, build, and operate the scalable, secure Cloud platform and its services.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning via IaC and integrate pipelines. Ensure platform stability, high availability, and optimal cost management.
  • Writing and maintaining Terraform modules to manage cloud landing zones.
  • Developing reusable CI/CD pipeline templates for microservices and API services. Configuring and monitoring platform observability
  • Capable of self-directed cloud infrastructure design and pipeline design, including cloud-specific product offerings, and tradeoffs between cost, reliability, and efficiency
  • Builds libraries, modules, and packages for other infrastructure engineers to integrate with their projects
  • Builds cloud infrastructure that supports applications and Improves the broader developer experience for engineers
  • Develops CI/CD processes to help deliver software of higher quality at greater speed
  • Integrates tools to satisfy non-functional requirements such as quality thresholds, security vulnerabilities, and static analysis
  • Builds specific application test and deployment pipelines using automated tooling such as Jenkins, Github Actions, Circle CI, Gitlab CI
  • Strong influential skills to collaborate across teams to consolidate and simplify DevSecOps tools and services
  • Deliver secure, modern application features and API components that integrate with core IRS systems.

  • Foster adoption of new platform tools and services by providing comprehensive documentation, training, and support.

  • Maintains a high-level understanding of adjacent technical areas and ecosystems to effectively coordinate integration with those systems

  • Strong influential skills to improve technical decision-making of clients through relationship-building

  • Presents on technical topics effectively, articulating implementation complexity and other costs to inform business decisions

  • Provides expertise in DevOps use of cloud-based services, defined using IaaC tooling

  • Ensures that systems operate smoothly and align with CMS/NIST quality and compliance standards so clients retain ATO

  • Plans and executes migrations to cloud-native data services

  • Actively participates in conversations and planning sessions with partners and key stakeholders

  • Periodically travels to work with and present to clients, partners, and stakeholders

  • Elaborates on and evolves complex and ambiguous products to uncover constraints and new opportunities

  • Effectively communicates on existing systems, design decisions, past performance, and a major history of the projects that they’ve been part of for bid-writing, tech demos, and other potentially client-facing communications

  • Participates in technical depth interviews with new candidates


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's and 9+ years of experience
    • Relevant years of experience may be substituted for education
  • Demonstrates expert-level knowledge in at least one infrastructure-as-code tool (e.g. terraform, ansible)
  • • Expertise in key DevSecOps concepts: installing software, virtualization, containerization, networking, etc.

  • Demonstrates expert-level knowledge in at least one technical area (including but not limited to frontend, backend, or infrastructure engineering)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in cloud-native architecture, container orchestration (Kubernetes, AKS/EKS/GKE), hybrid connectivity, and disaster recovery configuration. Strong analytical skills for performance optimization and FinOps reporting.
  • Languages & Software Potentially Needed: Terraform (expert), HashiCorp Vault (expert), AWS/Azure (certification required), Git/GitHub (for version control), Jenkins/GitLab CI/CD, Python (for scripting).
  • Full-stack application development experience (back-end focus strongly preferred).
  • Proficiency in API-first development, systems integration, and complex troubleshooting.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills (DevRel/DevEx).
  • Go/Java/Node.js (API development), Python/Ruby (scripting), PostgreSQL/NoSQL databases, experience with API Gateways (e.g., Kong, Apigee), Jira/Confluence (expert-level scripting/configuration for JIRA migration and maintenance).
