***********MUST HAVE Workday Systems Integration Experience********************

Title: Workday System Integration Engineer

L ocation: Houston, TX (Remotw)

Duration: 6 Months Contract

Job Description:

Terms of Employment

  • W2 Contract, 6 Months
  • Remote Opportunity

Overview

  • Our client is seeking a Senior hands-on Integration Engineer with deep Workday expertise and strong system-agnostic integration and software engineering fundamentals.
  • This role is responsible for designing, building, and troubleshooting API-driven integrations between Workday and enterprise platforms. Workday serves as the system of record, while Microsoft Power Automate and other tools act as orchestration and execution layers.
  • The ideal candidate possesses a deep mastery of Workday APIs, data structures, and business processes, complemented by a robust background in platform-agnostic integration architecture and engineering principles.

Responsibilities

Design and implement Workday integrations using:

  • Workday REST APIs
  • Workday SOAP APIs (Web Services)
  • Workday data model and business process logic

Construct and troubleshoot:

  • XML payloads and API requests
  • API responses and error handling
  • Authentication, security, and integration context

Build integrations that follow sound engineering principles:

  • Explicit validation prior to write-back
  • Deterministic execution and predictable outcomes
  • Robust error handling and retry strategies
  • Full observability including logging and audit trails

Diagnose integration issues by analyzing:

  • Raw API request and response data
  • Workday Business Process state and configuration
  • Data integrity and sequencing issues across systems

Partner with engineering teams to support orchestration patterns using tools such as:

  • Power Automate
  • API layers
  • Workflow and automation platforms

Ensure integrations respect system boundaries:

  • Workday enforces business rules and approval flows
  • External systems orchestrate, not override system-of-record logic.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in Workday integration.
  • Must demonstrate hands-on workday API experience and integration engineering depth.
  • Strong proficiency in Workday SOAP APIs (Web Services), Workday REST APIs, and a deep understanding of the Workday data model and object relationships.
  • Solid understanding of Workday Business Process-controlled API behavior and the ability to construct API requests manually.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot failures at the request/response level and debug integrations without relying on Studio abstraction layers.
  • Strong understanding of XML structure, namespaces, and schema validation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of integration security (ISU, ISSG), authentication, and API connectivity patterns.
  • Demonstrated ability to design integrations that are deterministic, resilient, observable, and auditable.
  • Strong understanding of core integration patterns, including API-driven architecture, request/response vs. event-driven models, and orchestration vs. system-of-record responsibility.
  • Ability to define validation layers before system updates and design safe retry strategies that prevent data duplication or corruption.
  • Proficiency in isolating failures across multi-system workflows and experience working across multiple platforms beyond Workday.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to demonstrate software engineering fundamentals and solve complex integration challenges.

Preetam Raj
