Job description

Company: American Workforce Solutions (on behalf of our client, a technology-driven telecommunications company)

Location: Remote (U.S.)

Job Type: Contract-to-Hire — 6-Month Initial Contract, Full-Time Hours

About the Role

American Workforce Solutions is partnering with a fast-growing telecommunications technology company to find a Data Architect to lead the design and modernization of their enterprise data ecosystem. This role starts as a six-month, W2 full-time contract engagement through American Workforce Solutions. This is a hands-on architecture role: you'll build real AWS-based data solutions while also owning the broader data strategy, governance, and integration roadmap across the business.

What You'll Do:

AWS Solution Architecture (the core of this role)

  • Design and build hands-on data solutions across core AWS services — DynamoDB, S3, VPC, and the surrounding architecture — not just at a conceptual level
  • Apply AWS AI/data ecosystem tools such as Bedrock and Agentforce to real use cases
  • Use Pandas and other AWS-native tooling for data engineering and analysis
  • Architect data integration across AWS source systems, Salesforce, NetSuite, and other enterprise platforms, enabling a 360-degree customer view

Data Strategy & Modernization

  • Own the enterprise data architecture roadmap, aligned to business and regulatory needs
  • Design scalable, modular data solutions and canonical data models that promote reuse across domains
  • Apply data mesh and domain-oriented patterns to enable team autonomy at scale
  • Bring data product thinking to pipelines and analytics platforms — clear owners, SLAs, and user experience
  • Apply working knowledge of Azure Fabric/OneLake — shortcuts, Delta Parquet, medallion (bronze/silver/gold) lakehouse layering — to support cross-cloud data strategy alongside the AWS environment; equivalent Databricks-on-Azure experience is an accepted substitute for Fabric-specific depth
  • Document architecture decisions, system diagrams, data flows, and technology stacks (ADRs)
  • Evaluate emerging technologies (AI/ML, data virtualization, knowledge graphs) and lead proof-of-concepts

Governance & Compliance

  • Establish and enforce data governance, quality, metadata, and lineage frameworks
  • Ensure data and AI solutions meet FCC, HIPAA, PCI, and other regulatory requirements

Leadership

  • Partner with IT, business leaders, and product owners on a unified, multi-company data strategy
  • Mentor data engineers and architects on best practices and emerging technologies
  • Champion a data-driven culture across the organization

What You'll Bring

  • 10+ years of enterprise data solution architecture experience, with real, hands-on solution-building — not just theoretical or conceptual architecture knowledge
  • Strong, current hands-on expertise with core AWS data services: DynamoDB, S3, VPC, and the broader AWS architecture, plus familiarity with Bedrock and Agentforce
  • Advanced SQL and Python, including Pandas and other tools common in the AWS ecosystem
  • General understanding of NoSQL database concepts
  • Familiarity with common enterprise architecture vernacular (TOGAF, Zachman, or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of Azure Fabric/OneLake (shortcuts, Delta Parquet, medallion-style bronze/silver/gold layering), or equivalent Databricks-on-Azure experience
  • Working knowledge of streaming/event-driven concepts (Kafka or similar)
  • Experience with data governance, quality, metadata management, and lineage frameworks
  • Familiarity with data privacy and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, GDPR, FCC)
  • API-first architecture experience for data integration and data product consumption
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (equivalent experience considered)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for executive and technical audiences alike

Nice to Have

  • Telecommunications domain experience
  • InfluxDB or other time-series database experience
  • Experience with Salesforce, NetSuite, or enterprise application integration
  • Experience building Customer 360 platforms
  • Background in telecom, healthcare, or other regulated industries
  • AWS, Azure, or enterprise architecture certifications (TOGAF, Zachman, etc.)

Work Environment

100% Remote — work environment is at home. Occasional flexible hours may be required to support cross-functional and executive priorities.
