Remote Aws Linux Administrator information

What is a remote AWS Linux administrator?

Remote AWS Linux Administrators are IT professionals who manage and maintain Linux-based servers and infrastructure hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) from a remote location. Their responsibilities typically include deploying, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting Linux systems on AWS, ensuring security and high availability, automating tasks using scripting, and handling updates and backups. They often work with tools like EC2, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch, and collaborate with development and security teams to support cloud-based applications. Working remotely, they leverage secure access methods and cloud management consoles to perform their duties efficiently.

How do remote AWS Linux administrators typically collaborate with other IT team members given the remote nature of the role?

Remote AWS Linux Administrators work closely with developers, security teams, and other system administrators using collaboration tools such as Slack, Jira, or Microsoft Teams. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation are essential for ensuring everyone stays aligned on system updates, incident responses, and project tasks. While the work is independent, administrators often participate in on-call rotations and troubleshooting sessions, requiring effective communication and teamwork across different time zones. Building strong relationships and proactively sharing knowledge help maintain smooth operations and foster a supportive remote team environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote AWS Linux administrator, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote AWS Linux Administrator, you need in-depth knowledge of Linux operating systems, AWS cloud infrastructure, scripting (e.g., Bash, Python), and a relevant degree or certifications like AWS Certified SysOps Administrator. Familiarity with AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM), configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet), and monitoring platforms (CloudWatch, Nagios) is essential. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective remote communication skills help you troubleshoot issues and collaborate with distributed teams. These skills ensure secure, reliable, and efficient cloud operations, which are critical for supporting business continuity and scalability.

Job description

We're hiring a Senior DevOps / Infrastructure Engineer for a full-time opportunity with a growing software company that develops secure, cloud-based technology for financial services organizations. This role focuses on building and operating highly reliable, secure, and automated infrastructure across AWS and on-premise environments. You'll work heavily with Python, Terraform, AWS, Linux, GitHub Actions, Ansible, and modern CI/CD practices while supporting a highly isolated, multi-customer platform.

This is a great opportunity for a senior infrastructure engineer who enjoys owning complex systems rather than working within a narrow operational lane. You'll have significant influence over automation, cloud architecture, security, disaster recovery, developer infrastructure, and the platform supporting AI-facing services. The environment rewards engineers who are comfortable digging into unfamiliar problems, automating repetitive work, and taking ownership from design through production. You'll also have the opportunity to work with emerging AI infrastructure and modern development tools while solving challenging problems in a security-sensitive environment.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, Infrastructure Engineering, or a similar role
  • Strong Python development experience
  • Deep experience with AWS infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience with EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, KMS, ECS, Route53, and ACM
  • Strong Infrastructure-as-Code experience with Terraform
  • Experience managing infrastructure across multiple AWS accounts
  • Strong Linux server administration skills
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions
  • Experience with configuration management at scale
  • Strong understanding of Git and modern source control practices
  • Experience supporting security-sensitive or regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure reliability, security, and performance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience with Ansible and/or SaltStack
  • Experience migrating configuration management platforms
  • Experience with Python tooling such as uv, pytest, ruff, and pyright
  • Experience operating self-hosted GitHub Actions runners
  • Knowledge of AWS OIDC federation and keyless authentication
  • Experience with AWS Transit Gateway, SSO, and cross-account role assumption
  • Experience with SOC 2 or ISO 27001 environments
  • Experience supporting AI infrastructure, MCP servers, OAuth/OIDC, or identity platforms
  • Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and restore testing
  • Go programming experience
  • Experience building cloud and VM images
  • Experience with Snowflake or Delta Lake
  • Tableau administration experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
