Remote Automotive Validation Engineer information

What is a remote automotive validation engineer?

A Remote Automotive Validation Engineer is a professional who tests and validates automotive systems, components, and software to ensure they meet required standards and function as intended. They work remotely, using specialized tools and software to perform simulations, analyze data, and communicate with on-site teams. Their role is crucial in detecting defects, ensuring safety, and improving the reliability of vehicles before they reach the market.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote automotive validation engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Automotive Validation Engineer, you need a strong background in automotive engineering, systems validation, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, CANoe/CANalyzer, test automation frameworks, and knowledge of ISO standards such as ISO 26262 are typically required. Outstanding problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills help you excel in collaborative, distributed teams. These abilities are critical to ensuring the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of automotive systems while working efficiently from a remote environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote automotive validation engineers, and how can they be overcome?

Remote Automotive Validation Engineers often encounter challenges related to effective communication and collaboration, since much of the validation work involves coordination with cross-functional teams such as design, software, and testing groups. Additionally, accessing physical prototypes or test vehicles remotely can be difficult, requiring robust simulation tools and remote diagnostics. To overcome these challenges, engineers should leverage advanced collaboration platforms, maintain clear documentation, and participate in regular virtual meetings. Building strong relationships with on-site team members and staying updated with the latest remote validation technologies also help ensure successful project outcomes.

This position will establish and guide enterprise testing, quality engineering, automation, and AI-assisted testing practices supporting U.S. Census Bureau systems. This position is contingent upon contract award.
The Senior Test Engineer will work within an Agile, DevSecOps, and cloud-native PMO environment, collaborating with product owners, engineers, architects, cybersecurity teams, program leaders, and Government stakeholders. The selected candidate must be available to travel to the Washington, DC metropolitan area as needed to support onsite meetings, program activities, and customer requirements.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Responsibilities
  • Establish enterprise testing standards, procedures, tools, comprehensive test plans, test cases, acceptance criteria, and requirements traceability practices.
  • Design test coverage encompassing functional, integration, system, regression, performance, user acceptance, negative, boundary, and edge-case testing.
  • Develop and maintain automated test suites, validation frameworks, CI/CD quality gates, and continuous-testing capabilities.
  • Evaluate and implement AI-assisted techniques for test-case generation, coverage analysis, synthetic test data, regression testing, defect analysis, and quality assurance.
  • Lead defect triage, root-cause analysis, release-readiness assessments, test documentation, traceability reporting, and quality-control activities.
  • Collaborate with Government stakeholders, program managers, engineers, architects, product owners, cybersecurity teams, and other contractors to improve system quality and reliability.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience, with at least five years of experience leading testing for complex software applications.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with test-automation frameworks, testing tools, defect-management platforms, and automated validation solutions.
  • Experience integrating automated testing, continuous testing, and quality gates into Agile and DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience using AI-assisted testing techniques for test generation, automation development, regression testing, coverage analysis, or defect investigation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills with experience validating accuracy, consistency, repeatability, and reliability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical, program, customer, and contractor teams.

Additional Qualifications
  • Experience supporting U.S. Census Bureau systems, decennial census operations, census data platforms, or federal modernization initiatives.
  • Experience with AI-powered testing platforms, autonomous or semi-autonomous testing workflows, synthetic test data, and automated defect triage.
  • Experience with accessibility, usability, performance, security, cloud-native, or enterprise data-system testing.
