Remote Automotive Systems Engineer information

What is a remote automotive systems engineer?

Remote Automotive Systems Engineers are professionals who design, develop, and test automotive systems—such as safety, infotainment, or powertrain controls—while working remotely. They use specialized software tools to collaborate with teams, troubleshoot system issues, and ensure components meet automotive standards and regulations. Their work often involves simulation, system integration, and validating designs through virtual or remote testing methods. This role requires strong knowledge of automotive engineering, electronics, and remote communication technologies.

How does a remote automotive systems engineer collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while working off-site?

As a Remote Automotive Systems Engineer, collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as software developers, hardware engineers, and project managers—is typically facilitated through digital communication tools like video conferencing, project management software, and shared documentation platforms. Regular virtual meetings and clear communication protocols help ensure alignment on project goals and timelines. Additionally, cloud-based simulation and testing environments allow remote engineers to review system designs, run diagnostics, and share results in real time, fostering seamless teamwork despite geographic distance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote automotive systems engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Automotive Systems Engineer, you need strong expertise in automotive electronics, systems integration, and a relevant engineering degree such as electrical or mechanical engineering. Experience with tools like MATLAB/Simulink, CAN bus analysis, and familiarity with ISO 26262 or ASPICE certifications is highly valuable. Excellent problem-solving, remote collaboration, and clear communication skills help you work effectively with global teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure the design and delivery of safe, reliable automotive systems that meet rigorous industry standards, even in a distributed work environment.

What is the difference between Remote Automotive Systems Engineer vs Remote Automotive Software Developer?

You will lead the evolution of JASSM Mission Planning software products, overseeing new designs, updates, enhancements, and defect corrections across multiple U.S. and international contracts. This position requires a unique blend of technical systems engineering expertise and Agile leadership to ensure that our software solutions are outcome-driven and aligned with the needs of the warfighter
Key Responsibilities:
Product Ownership & Agile Leadership
Strategic Coordination: Collaborate closely with the Program Management Office (PMO), Solution Train, and peer Release Train Engineers (RTEs) to coordinate product and solution delivery.
Agile Transformation: Serve as a change agent for Agile transformation, coaching teams to achieve decentralized decision-making, improved alignment, and streamlined coordination.
Event Facilitation: Lead and support large solution-level events, including Program Increment (PI) Planning, ensuring the program remains outcome-driven.
Solution Health: Monitor the health of the solution through data-driven metrics and establish continuous process improvement cadences that deliver tangible value.
Operational Oversight: Identify and resolve systemic bottlenecks across the solution train to maintain delivery velocity and product quality.
Systems Engineering & Technical Execution
Architectural Development: Own the end-to-end design and development process. This includes identifying stakeholder needs, developing high- and low-level system architectures using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) via Cameo, and defining formal requirements (SRS, DRS).
Software Integration: Ensure Mission Planning software products are seamlessly integrated with external systems-including Missile Performance Models and the Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS)-within the defined Mission Planning Environment.
Verification & Validation: Guarantee that all software requirements are fully verified by creating and executing comprehensive test plans, test cases, and acceptance test procedures utilizing simulation tools and specialized test data sets.
User-Centric Design: Lead technical meetings with end-users to gather requirements and feedback, ensuring that user needs are directly incorporated into system-level designs.
Contract & Customer Management
