Their duties typically include managing accounting processes, preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and providing financial analysis to support business decisions. With advancements in technology, remote controllers can access dealership management systems and financial data securely from any location. This role helps dealerships maintain accurate financial records and optimize profitability without requiring a full-time, on-site controller.

To succeed as a Remote Automotive Controller, you need a strong background in accounting, financial analysis, and automotive dealership operations, generally backed by a degree in accounting or finance and relevant work experience. Familiarity with dealership management systems (DMS) like Reynolds & Reynolds or CDK Global, as well as proficiency in Excel and financial reporting software, is essential. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills set top performers apart, especially when collaborating remotely across departments. These competencies ensure accurate financial oversight, regulatory compliance, and effective support for dealership profitability in a remote work environment.

How does a remote automotive controller effectively collaborate with dealership teams while working off-site?

As a Remote Automotive Controller, you will regularly interact with dealership management, sales, and service teams through virtual meetings, emails, and specialized dealership management systems. Clear communication and timely reporting are crucial to bridge the physical distance and ensure financial accuracy. About Us
All In One Accounting is a 7-time winner of the 50 Fastest Growing Companies in the Twin Cities and one of the Best Places to Work in the Minneapolis area. Our purpose is simple: to make the lives of entrepreneurial and nonprofit leaders better. We do that by supporting profitable growth, protecting assets, and amplifying impact - bringing financial clarity and strategic leadership to the clients who need it most. We run on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), which means clear goals, strong accountability, and a team that executes with intention.
A bit about the role:
We're seeking a strategic Nonprofit Controller to lead the quality of client work, develop the Accountants alongside them, and serve as a trusted partner to mission-driven organizations. This role is pivotal across a portfolio of complex nonprofit accounts - from community foundations and social service agencies to advocacy organizations and membership associations. You are client-facing and advisory, and you play a critical role in the team.
Now About You
We hire for hungry, humble, and smart - and Controllers at AIOA are the fullest expression of all three. Hungry means you own the quality of your team's work and the development of the Accountants alongside you. Humble means you invest in the people around you genuinely, take accountability when work falls short, and bring your best thinking to every client interaction and every team conversation. Smart means you translate complex financials into clear decisions, lead with calm confidence, and know how to guide a team to great work without a formal reporting line to lean on.
Responsibilities & Expectations
Client Responsibilities
• Lead month-end closing meetings and financial reviews with nonprofit clients and internal teams
• Oversee preparation and review of monthly financial statements including Statement of Activities, Statement of Financial Position, and cash flow reporting
• Lead the work quality and informal mentorship of Accountants on your delivery team
• Oversee grant compliance, restricted fund reporting, and funder relationship support
• Own audit preparation processes including schedules, reconciliations, and auditor communications
• Partner with the Accountant to investigate budget variances and communicate key financial insights, risks, and opportunities to clients and CFOs
• Prepare cash flow forecasts and collaborate with the CFO to help clients make informed financial and operational decisions
• Partner with the CFO and client leadership to facilitate effective collaboration with external advisors, including CPAs, attorneys, and auditors.
• Implement and maintain robust internal controls across client accounts
• Utilize current processes and tools, including code red alerts, to proactively identify and prevent fraud throughout all client accounting processes
• Meet or exceed billable hours goals while maintaining service excellence
Internal Responsibilities
• Complete all internal responsibilities including time tracking, capacity planning, and quarterly initiatives
• Actively participate in All In One Accounting's Brand Ambassador program, representing our mission and values
• Uphold security practices to protect client assets effectively
The successful candidate will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
  • Experience in a multi-client or Client Accounting Services (CAS) environment strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience including team leadership
  • Deep expertise in nonprofit fund accounting, grant management, audit management, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting
  • Proven success in client-facing advisory roles in a multi-client environment
  • Strong ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance to Accountants without a formal reporting relationship
  • Excellence in financial analysis and communication with nonprofit leaders
  • Advanced technical skills across multiple accounting platform
