WestLand is adding an Assistant Department Director, Cultural Resources, to our CRM West region team! This position, based in Reno, Nevada, oversees the operations of the Cultural Resources Department in Nevada and supports projects in neighboring states. Responsibilities include project delivery oversight, business development, client relations, staff supervision, and ensuring quality standards are met for all deliverables. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning abilities, technical expertise in Great Basin archaeology, and deep knowledge of cultural resources management, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.

What will I be doing?

  • Supervise and mentor project managers and other staff, ensuring effective workload distribution.
  • Serving as a Project Manager and/or Principal Investigator on a variety of interesting and complex cultural resources projects for our public and private clients.
  • Identify and address operational process failures; recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with technical editors to manage workload and ensure timely report delivery.
  • Train staff in company project management procedures and software systems.
  • Assist in planning resource allocation for projects and monitoring utilization rates.
  • Participate in client relations efforts, maintaining positive relationships and identifying new opportunities.
  • Ensure staff follow established technical review processes and meet quality standards.
  • Monitor and update templates and processes to meet evolving industry and agency requirements.
  • Stay current on relevant permitting and reporting requirements for all applicable agencies.
  • Contribute to the development of SOQs and RFP responses, and participate in go/no-go decisions.
  • Assist in preparing and managing department budgets, tracking spending, and addressing variances.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive company and client information.
  • Actively participate in meetings and departmental initiatives.

What qualifications are required for this role?

  • Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in cultural resources management, with at least five (5) years in a supervisory or leadership role in (preferably in the Great Basin region).
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a diverse team of professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business relationships and generate new clients.
  • Expertise in applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Expertise in managing multiple projects and clients simultaneously.
  • A background working with multidisciplinary teams is considered an asset.

The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $145,000 annually.
