What are remote augmented reality jobs?

Remote augmented reality jobs involve working with AR technology—software and hardware that overlays digital information onto the real world—while performing all job duties from a remote location. These roles can include AR developers, designers, project managers, testers, and support staff who collaborate virtually to create, test, and maintain AR applications. Remote AR professionals use tools like Unity, Unreal Engine, and ARKit/ARCore to build immersive experiences for mobile, web, or headset platforms. They often work for tech companies, startups, or agencies, supporting industries such as gaming, education, healthcare, and retail. Communication and project management are typically handled through online collaboration platforms, making strong digital communication skills essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Augmented Reality Developer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Augmented Reality Developer, you need a strong background in computer science, 3D graphics, and AR development, often demonstrated by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with AR platforms like ARKit, ARCore, Unity, Unreal Engine, and programming languages such as C# or C++ is crucial. Outstanding problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills help you collaborate effectively and deliver projects independently in a remote setting. These competencies enable the creation of immersive, high-quality AR experiences and ensure reliable performance when working remotely.

What are some common challenges faced when working remotely as an Augmented Reality developer, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Augmented Reality (AR) professionals often face challenges such as hardware compatibility issues, limited access to specialized equipment, and difficulties in real-time collaboration with designers and stakeholders. To address these, many teams use cloud-based AR development platforms and version control systems to streamline asset sharing and testing. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and adopting collaborative tools like shared 3D workspaces can help maintain communication and ensure project alignment. Additionally, many companies provide stipends or loaner devices to ensure remote team members have access to necessary hardware.

Job description

Senior Product Manager

OUR COMPANY

SimX is a fast-growing startup bringing virtual and augmented reality to medical simulation training. Our product is the first comprehensive professional-grade VR medical simulation system, and it is used by our customers to train physicians, nurses, paramedics and other allied health professionals. Since our product has become generally available, demand has exploded and we're in need of new team members to move our product forward.

Our company has an ambitious and high-impact purpose: to transform the way healthcare professionals are trained in order to take a dent out of the more than 400,000 people who die every year from preventable medical errors. We're a dynamic team that includes a wide set of medical professionals, artists, designers, scientists, engineers, and many others, all of whom have dedicated their time to achieving our mission. We are looking for new team members who are excited about our mission and have the drive to thrive in the startup environment.

THE JOB
We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to take end-to-end strategic ownership of a major product domain. In this role, you will not only drive discovery, prioritization, delivery, and measurement, but you will also define the long-term vision for your product area. You will serve as a key bridge across engineering, platform, content, medical education, and go-to-market teams. As a senior leader on the team, you will tackle highly ambiguous problems, mentor peers, and deliver high-impact solutions that solve meaningful clinical training challenges while driving measurable business scale

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Vision, Strategy & Lifecycle
  • Translate high-level company vision into a comprehensive, multi-year product strategy and actionable roadmap for a major product or platform area
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Product and executive leadership to align your domain roadmap with overarching corporate priorities, commercial opportunities, and market dynamics.
  • Proactively manage complex product lifecycles, balancing critical short-term delivery with foundational, long-term technical and product scalability.
  • Anticipate and resolve cross-functional dependencies, resource constraints, and technical risks across the entire product ecosystem.
Advanced Customer Discovery & Market Insight
  • Lead comprehensive discovery initiatives including interviews, usability testing, and deep workflow observations with clinicians, military personnel, educators, and learners.
  • Act as the ultimate voice of the customer, translating complex educational paradigms and clinical workflows into intuitive digital and spatial experiences.
  • Synthesize qualitative insights with quantitative feedback from Sales, Customer Success and Support to design highly differentiated solutions tailored for healthcare, military, and academic markets.
Execution & Delivery
  • Own backlog management, prioritization, and agile ceremonies for your product area.
  • Use transparent prioritization frameworks (e.g., RICE, MoSCoW) to focus teams on high-impact work.
  • Partner with Engineering, Platform, and Content teams to manage dependencies and ensure smooth delivery.
  • Write clear requirements and acceptance criteria, ensuring efficient collaboration between functions.
  • Spearhead go-to-market alignment, quality assurance, and internal enablement to drive flawless product rollouts and rapid commercial adoption.
Measurement & Iteration
  • Define success metrics for every initiative before development begins.
  • Track adoption, usage, and learning outcomes post-launch to evaluate impact.
  • Run pilots and phased rollouts to validate direction and reduce risk.
  • Use data and feedback to refine priorities and inform future planning.
  • Collaborate with data and analytics teams to ensure product instrumentation and reporting.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Strategic Vision & Autonomy: Proven capability to take ambiguous business goals and convert them into a structured, executable product strategy with minimal guidance.
  • Advanced Discovery & UX Awareness: Deeply skilled at extracting root user problems from complex clinical environments and collaborating with designers to craft seamless workflows.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Exceptional leadership posture with the ability to build consensus and drive execution across highly technical (Engineering/Platform) and domain-specific (Clinical/Content/GTM) teams.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Strong analytical acumen with an ability to parse usage data and product analytics to justify critical trade-offs and pivots.
  • Scale Mindset: Comfort operating in a rapidly changing startup environment, paired with the foresight to build scalable, repeatable product processes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 8+ years of professional experience in product management, with a strong preference for candidates coming from SaaS, platform, educational technology, healthcare technology, or VR/AR ecosystems.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience managing complex, multi-faceted product domains or platform ecosystems from concept through successful commercial launch.
  • Proven track record of establishing product strategies that directly drove measurable business outcomes (e.g., significant user adoption, customer retention, or operational efficiency).
  • Extensive experience managing cross-functional dependencies across engineering and diverse cross-functional teams (e.g., content, clinical, or go-to-market teams).
  • Expert command of agile development processes, modern product management tooling, and structured prioritization methodologies.
  • Superb communication and storytelling abilities, with a demonstrated knack for conveying technical rationale to executive stakeholders, clinicians, and engineers alike.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Note: these are not required to be a successful applicant, but we'd love it if you have one or two! Please also feel free to let us know if you have skills not listed here that you think would make you a great fit for our company.

  • Background in healthcare, simulation, edtech, or SaaS.
  • Experience working with product teams in a startup or scaling environment.
  • Familiarity with VR/AR technology and development processes.
  • Ability to analyze product data and provide insights to support decision-making.

You must live in and be authorized to work in the United States. Depending on the position we may have a preference to a specific location, but are generally open to remote work within the continental United States.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Target salary range commensurate with experience $140,000-$165,000
  • Remote work environment
  • SimX covers 99% of employee premiums and 50% of dependent premiums for medical, dental, and vision
  • 401(k) with employer matching
  • Company laptop, home office credit, and internet reimbursement
  • Unlimited PTO
