What is a remote auditor?

Remote Auditors are professionals who perform audits and assessments of an organization's financial records, processes, or compliance standards from a location outside of the client's physical premises, often using digital tools and secure communication platforms. They review documents, conduct interviews, and analyze data virtually to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance. Remote auditing has become increasingly popular as it allows greater flexibility, reduced travel costs, and easier access to global clients. Despite working remotely, auditors maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to the same standards as on-site audits.

What does a remote auditor do?

As a remote auditor, you perform a variety of accounting duties for a financial firm, bank, or another client. You audit your client’s statement and tax paperwork, review assets, and ensure that the firm or client is complying with all federal and state regulations regarding taxes and transparency. As an auditor, your responsibilities also include identifying areas where there are inefficiencies or financial waste in a company. Your reports allow managers and directors to come up with solutions to address the waste.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote auditor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Auditor, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid grasp of auditing standards, often backed by a degree in accounting or finance and relevant certifications like CPA or CIA. Familiarity with audit software, data analytics tools, and secure file-sharing platforms is typically required. Exceptional communication, time management, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for collaborating with clients and teams from a distance. These abilities ensure thorough, accurate audits and effective remote collaboration, which are essential for maintaining compliance and trust in a decentralized work environment.

How does a remote auditor typically collaborate with on-site teams and clients during an audit process?

Remote Auditors frequently communicate with on-site teams and clients using video conferencing, secure document-sharing platforms, and collaborative project management tools. They coordinate audit schedules, request supporting documentation, and clarify findings through regular virtual meetings and emails. Although working remotely reduces travel, it requires strong organizational and communication skills to ensure all parties stay aligned and deadlines are met. Building trust and rapport with clients remotely is essential for accessing information efficiently and conducting thorough audits.

Job description

About T3 Services Group

T3 Services Group is a national home services company with seven locations across the U.S., providing Plumbing, Drains, HVAC, and Electrical services. Our business is powered by talented technicians and installers who take pride in delivering 5-star service, along with the incredible administrative teams behind the scenes who keep our operations running smoothly.

We're looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Payroll Analyst to manage weekly and bi-weekly payroll processing across our organization. This role is a great fit for someone who understands complex pay structures, works well under tight processing deadlines, and knows that payroll requires both accuracy and urgency.

The Good Stuff

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Pet Insurance
  • 401(k) with 4% company match
  • PTO, Paid Holidays, and Paid Parental Leave
  • Weekly Pay
  • 100% Remote
  • Company-provided laptop, monitor, and headset
  • Employee Discounts

What You'll Do

  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll accurately, timely, and confidentially.
  • Audit and calculate hourly wages, commissions, performance-based pay, and other compensation structures.
  • Review timecards, sales data, wages, deductions, benefits, and other payroll items for accuracy.
  • Maintain payroll records for new hires, terminations, pay changes, benefits updates, and other employee changes.
  • Audit A/R and operational data, including sales, payments, and job holds that may impact commissions.
  • Research and maintain compliance with applicable multi-state payroll and tax requirements.
  • Review year-end payroll reporting, including W-2s, ACA reporting, and tax filings.
  • Generate recurring payroll reports and ad hoc reporting for leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Partner closely with HR, Accounting, and Operations to research and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Manage short processing deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Perform other payroll-related duties as needed.

What We're Really Looking For

  • 3+ years of payroll processing experience or experience in a closely related role.
  • Experience working with performance-based compensation, including commission, piece-rate, hourly, or blended pay structures. Home services experience is a major plus.
  • Experience processing payroll for 300+ employees.
  • Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP.
  • ServiceTitan experience is highly preferred.
  • ADP experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Multi-state payroll and payroll tax experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and auditing skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and move quickly when payroll issues arise.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-service mindset when supporting employees and leaders.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
  • High school diploma or GED required; a degree or certification in Accounting, Finance, HR, or a related field is a plus.

Schedule & Availability

Payroll deadlines drive this position, so Monday through Wednesday are our heaviest and most critical workdays.

  • Monday-Wednesday: Open availability between 7:00 AM-7:00/8:00 PM CST is required based on payroll processing needs.
  • Thursday-Friday: Typically lighter and more flexible, generally around 9:00 AM-3:00 PM CST.
  • Holiday Weeks: Availability to work weekends around certain holidays is required when necessary to meet payroll deadlines.

Remote Work Eligibility

This is a fully remote position, but candidates must reside in a state where T3 Services Group is currently set up to employ:

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Washington.

If you're someone who takes ownership of payroll, understands the importance of getting every dollar right, and can thrive when deadlines are tight, we'd love to hear from you.
