Job Summary
The Regional People Partner facilitates and manages employee relations and, with a compliance lens, provides management teams with guidance on how to manage complex Team Member and compliance issues. This role reports to the People Resources Business Partner and is a supportive member of the People Resources team, helping Shake Shack to mitigate human capital risk through understanding and application of employment law. This is a remote role.

Job Responsibilities and Duties
  • Employee Relations (ER): Responds to, investigates, and resolves ER issues thoroughly and in a timely manner. Identifies trends and potential risk and escalates accordingly. Provides training on how to conduct investigations, proper documentation and when to escalate depending on the severity of the situation. Demonstrated ability to handle high volume of employee relations cases and prioritize based on level of severity and risk.
  • Management Guidance: Provides sound guidance with a compliance lens to managers on all HR-related questions and concerns ranging from progressive discipline and terminations to wage and hour inquiries, and policies and procedures. Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies to effectively manage conflict resolution. Develops further training as needed.
  • Wage & Hour Compliance and Training: Exercises judgement to identify regional trends and gaps in understanding of local regulations to identify additional training opportunities. Supports Senior Compliance Manager in creating content and training leaders on requirements, as needed. With information provided by Senior Compliance Manager, maintains awareness of pending state/local legislation pertinent to the region.
  • Regional People Support: Serves as key contact for all Regional People inquiries. Works closely with Shack Support Center in facilitating resolutions or redirecting appropriately to cross functional partners. Includes technical HRIS support in Workday and payroll-related support (in partnership with payroll team). Manages the interactive process accommodation requests in compliance with the ADA. Manages Shake Shack's Background Check process in compliance with local jurisdictional requirements.
  • Auditing and Legal Requests: Conducts HR audits across the region to drive awareness and accountability while tracking metrics and identifying opportunities for future training and process improvement. Fulfills legal requests as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Experience with complex people issues and investigations
  • Experience thoroughly documenting investigations and performance issues; using case management systems
  • Experience training both virtually and in person
  • Experience managing accommodations under ADA and state level accommodation guidelines
  • Experience and knowledge of federal, state and local labor laws
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams
  • Highly organized with the ability to appropriately prioritize and manage competing priorities, ability to work at a fast pace while mitigating risk, consistently clear, concise and effective in written and verbal communication

Bachelor's Degree
Master's Degree - Preferred

Work Experience
4-6 years
Related Experience
Multi-unit and multi-state/jurisdiction retail or restaurant support experience needed. Experience managing a high volume of complex employee relations cases.
