Job description

Who We Are: AM Pierce & Associates and Applied Technologies Group (ATG), a wholly owned subsidiary of AM Pierce and Associates, is a woman-owned small business providing Engineering & Research, Cyber, C5ISR, Program & Acquisition Management services and solutions to a diverse government and industry client base. We are a stable and growing company who offers our employees a rich benefits package, supportive and flexible work environment, and the opportunity to work with experts in their field.

The Position: AM Pierce is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the development of an advanced technology being designed internally by the U.S. Navy. Working as part of a systems-engineering team and under the direction of a senior systems engineer, this individual will help multidisciplinary teams apply systems-engineering principles, develop a coherent system design, and capture that design in an integrated system model.

The position requires someone who can engage effectively with engineers, software developers, analysts, operators, and government stakeholders; contribute to structured technical discussions; and clearly represent the resulting design and technical baseline.

The ideal candidate has approximately five years of relevant experience and a practical understanding of systems engineering, system architecture, and model-based engineering.

Salary: The estimated salary range for this position is $90,000 - $105,000 annually, based upon an individual's level of experience, skillset, and education. The range that is given is an estimate and may vary based on contractual constraints. At AM Pierce & Associates, it is our goal to provide equitable compensation to all employees.

The Location: Patuxent River, Maryland

The Work Environment: Remote, Hybrid, or On-site. This position may support remote, hybrid, or on-site work, subject to program and contract requirements. Preference will be given to candidates located near Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, who can regularly participate in on-site collaboration. Remote employees may be required to travel to Patuxent River for technical working sessions, demonstrations, and program reviews.

The Description:

  • Support the application of systems-engineering principles throughout technology development.
  • Work with senior systems engineers to plan and facilitate collaborative design activities.
  • Help multidisciplinary teams define system context, behavior, functions, architecture, interfaces, and requirements.
  • Contribute systems-level questions and analysis that connect decisions across engineering disciplines.
  • Help clarify technical objectives, assumptions, constraints, dependencies, and design decisions.
  • Identify potential gaps, inconsistencies, and unresolved dependencies for consideration by the systems-engineering team and technical stakeholders.
  • Capture the team's technical design and supporting rationale in an integrated system model.
  • Develop and maintain SysML models using Cameo Systems Modeler.
  • Represent operational context, system behavior, functional responsibilities, logical and physical structure, interfaces, requirements, and traceability.
  • Maintain consistency among the system model, technical discussions, analyses, and program decisions.
  • Apply established program modeling methods, patterns, conventions, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with systems engineers, technical leads, and subject-matter experts to ensure the model accurately represents the evolving design.
  • Prepare models, diagrams, analyses, and other engineering artifacts for technical working sessions and reviews.
  • Communicate system concepts clearly to technical and program stakeholders.
  • Incorporate technical direction and review feedback into the system model and supporting artifacts.

Education & Experience:

  • Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret.
  • Bachelor's degree (four-year degree) in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 (five) years of professional experience in relevant systems-engineering, system-architecture, design, integration, or technical-development experience.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering or system-design activities.
  • Working knowledge of systems-engineering principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering and SysML.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and technical-synthesis skills.
  • Ability to reason across system context, behavior, structure, interfaces, requirements, and design constraints.
  • Ability to work effectively within systems-engineering team and with technical specialists from multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to apply established modeling methods and conventions.
  • Ability to organize complex information and represent it clearly through models, diagrams, and written material.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience using Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, or a comparable SysML modeling environment.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or U.S. Navy technology-development programs.
  • Experience with software-intensive, distributed, simulation, or system-of-systems architectures.
  • Experience with behavioral modeling, functional decomposition, interface definition, requirements traceability, or architecture development.
  • Familiarity with software development, data architecture, simulation environments, or digital-engineering practices.
  • Experience participating in technical working sessions or system-level design reviews.
  • Experience with System-of-Systems integration, LVC environments, and interoperability.

Travel:

  • On some occasions, the employee may be required to drive to offices or buildings near the work site. In rare occasions, travel may be required.
