A Remote Attorney must have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, active bar membership, strong legal research skills, and proficiency in drafting and analyzing legal documents. Familiarity with legal practice management software, secure document sharing platforms, and e-filing systems is often essential. Job description

Are you an attorney who enjoys practicing law but wants greater flexibility and independence than a traditional law firm environment can offer?

Our growing Okemos-based law firm is seeking an experienced attorney to work as an independent contractor. This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer who wants to maintain a high level of professional autonomy while benefiting from the support, referrals, infrastructure, and collaborative environment of an established firm.

The position offers primarily remote work, flexible scheduling, and access to office conference space as needed. The attorney will manage their own matters while collaborating with a small team focused on estate planning, business planning, business succession planning, and civil litigation.

What Makes This Opportunity Different?

  • Work independently without the bureaucracy and billable-hour pressure often associated with larger firms.
  • Maintain flexibility and control over your schedule.
  • Enjoy the support of an established practice, including attorney collaboration and shared resources.
  • Primarily remote work with optional office and conference room access.
  • Opportunity to build and maintain strong client relationships while focusing on meaningful legal work.

Responsibilities

  • Handle estate planning, business planning, and business succession matters.
  • Manage civil litigation matters from intake through resolution.
  • Draft, review, and revise legal documents, agreements, pleadings, and contracts.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis.
  • Advise clients on legal strategies and business matters.
  • Attend client meetings, court appearances, mediations, and other proceedings as needed.
  • Collaborate with firm attorneys on complex matters while maintaining independent responsibility for client work.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Michigan.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of legal practice experience.
  • Experience in estate planning, business planning, business succession planning, and/or civil litigation.
  • Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively counsel and communicate with clients.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to grow a legal practice within a supportive environment.

About Us
