How does asynchronous work affect collaboration and communication in a remote setting?

In a remote asynchronous role, team members typically work at different times, so effective collaboration relies heavily on clear written communication and thorough documentation. You'll often need to leave detailed updates, instructions, or feedback so that colleagues in other time zones can pick up where you left off. This setup encourages autonomy but also requires proactive communication and strong organizational skills. Common challenges include waiting for responses and ensuring alignment on tasks, but teams address this by setting clear expectations, regular check-ins, and using asynchronous-friendly tools. If you are self-driven and comfortable working independently, this environment can offer great flexibility and work-life balance.

What is a Remote Asynchronous job?

A Remote Asynchronous job allows employees to work from any location without the need for real-time communication or fixed working hours. Instead of adhering to a set schedule, employees complete tasks on their own time while collaborating through emails, recorded videos, or project management tools. This setup promotes flexibility and autonomy, making it ideal for global teams or individuals in different time zones. Effective communication and self-discipline are crucial for success in this type of work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Asynchronous position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Remote Asynchronous role, you need excellent self-management, time management, and digital communication skills, typically supported by experience working independently in remote environments. Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Slack, Trello, Asana, and cloud-based document sharing platforms is important, and some roles may require specific technical proficiencies tied to the field. Strong written communication, proactivity, and the ability to set clear priorities will help you excel when direct, real-time supervision is limited. These competencies ensure productivity, accountability, and team alignment in settings where team members may work across different time zones and schedules.

Job description

About us:

Papa Docs is a physician-led medical practice dedicated to advancing care for older adults by addressing both medical needs and the social factors that influence health. Our team  provides virtual, compassionate, and evidence-informed care that integrates medical and social care delivery - meeting older adults where they are.

We serve Medicare beneficiaries through a physician-directed, community-based care navigation model. Physicians collaborate with trained Community Care Advocates who help older adults navigate local services, address gaps in social support, and improve overall well-being. This clinical model is designed to identify, assess, and manage both medical and social risks using scalable, tech-enabled workflows that are grounded in trust, dignity, and accessibility.

Papa Docs is supported by Papa Health, a wholly owned subsidiary of Papa, Inc., which provides non-clinical management and technology infrastructure. This alignment allows Papa Docs' physicians to focus fully on patient care while ensuring that services are accessible, scalable, and grounded in community.

About the role:

We are seeking a mission-driven, collaborative Physician Partner to join Papa Docs  by integrating health-related social needs (HRSNs) into care delivery. This is a high-impact opportunity to work at the intersection of clinical care and social support.

As a Physician Partner, you will provide synchronous and asynchronous telemedicine consultations for older adults, conduct virtual assessments, and generate care plans that address both medical and social needs. These care plans will be implemented and supported by Community Care Advocates. As one of the early physician partners, you'll have significant influence over how we deliver care and design our clinical workflows. If you've ever wanted to shape a clinical practice from the beginning rather than inherit someone else's playbook, this is that chance.

This is a part-time, remote, 1099 contractor position with flexible hours.

What you'll do:
  • Conduct virtual visits with older adults and review their medical history
  • Identify health-related social needs (HRSNs) as part of the care planning process
  • Create and update care plans that guide Community Care Advocates in providing community health support services to patients
  • Participate in asynchronous chart reviews and escalations, as needed
  • Collaborate with Papa Docs'  partners, including operational teams  to inform workflows
  • As one of our early physicians, your insights will contribute to shaping our workflows, refining our care model, and solving operational challenges in real-time. Your input will directly influence how we grow.
Skills we look for:
  • Excellent communication and clinical reasoning skills
  • Compassionate, patient-first mindset
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, tech-enabled environment (experience with telemedicine is a plus)
  • Flexibility, reliability, and collaboration in cross-functional teams
  • Reliable independent contributor open to collaborating with operations to improve clinical workflows
  • Startup mindset - highly adaptable, communicative across operational and clinical teams, and see gaps as opportunities.
What you bring:
  • Active, unrestricted MD or DO license in good standing
  • Board-certification in internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Active Florida state medical license, Florida Medicaid credential and Medicare enrollment required
  • Licensure or credentialing in additional states is a plus
  • Minimum 2 years post-residency clinical experience
  • Prior experience with telemedicine strongly preferred
  • Flexibility to work a minimum of 8 hours/week for synchronous consultations on weekdays
  • Fluency in Spanish is a bonus
Location
  • Remote
Benefits:
  • Flexible remote schedule
  • Administrative support - so you can focus on patient care
  • As an independent contractor, you will be responsible for your own taxes and benefits
