Job Summary:
The Department of Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law is looking for an affiliate faculty member to teach one lower-division and one upper-division course in Philosophy; the first in the 7-week 2 term of fall 2026 (October 19 to December 6, 2026), and the second in the 7 week 1 term of spring 2027 (January 11 to February 28, 2027). The classes to be taught include PL 250: Introduction to Philosophy and PL 476: Web of Life (Environmental Ethics).
Introduction to Philosophy conveys a sense of what philosophy has been and engages students in a philosophical reflection on perennial and contemporary issues. Emphasizes knowledge, freedom, value, and society. Introduction to Philosophy will be offered as an asynchronous, online course in the 7 week 2 term of fall 2026.
Web of Life: Environmental Ethics investigates environmental ethical problems and draws on ethical theories to develop compassionate and sustainable solutions. Cross listing(s): HU 477. Web of Life will be offered as an asynchronous, online course in the 7 week 1 term of spring 2027.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • For traditional, in-person courses, the requirements are to meet in-person with the class twice when scheduled and hold 1 hour of office hours per week. Faculty will participate in designing their own course (in consultation with the chair of the department).
  • For post-traditional, remote courses, the requirements are to deliver recorded virtual lectures, actively engage with student posts on the discussion board, respond to student questions, and provide feedback and grade assignments. Faculty hold 1 ยฝ virtual office hours per week. A completed course shell and syllabus are provided.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Philosophy or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Philosophy or related field.
  • Teaching Experience.
