What is a remote asynchronous?

A Remote Asynchronous job allows employees to work from any location without the need for real-time communication or fixed working hours. Instead of adhering to a set schedule, employees complete tasks on their own time while collaborating through emails, recorded videos, or project management tools. This setup promotes flexibility and autonomy, making it ideal for global teams or individuals in different time zones. Effective communication and self-discipline are crucial for success in this type of work environment.

How does asynchronous work affect collaboration and communication in a remote setting?

In a remote asynchronous role, team members typically work at different times, so effective collaboration relies heavily on clear written communication and thorough documentation. You'll often need to leave detailed updates, instructions, or feedback so that colleagues in other time zones can pick up where you left off. This setup encourages autonomy but also requires proactive communication and strong organizational skills. Common challenges include waiting for responses and ensuring alignment on tasks, but teams address this by setting clear expectations, regular check-ins, and using asynchronous-friendly tools. If you are self-driven and comfortable working independently, this environment can offer great flexibility and work-life balance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a remote asynchronous position?

To thrive in a Remote Asynchronous role, you need excellent self-management, time management, and digital communication skills, typically supported by experience working independently in remote environments. Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Slack, Trello, Asana, and cloud-based document sharing platforms is important, and some roles may require specific technical proficiencies tied to the field. Strong written communication, proactivity, and the ability to set clear priorities will help you excel when direct, real-time supervision is limited. These competencies ensure productivity, accountability, and team alignment in settings where team members may work across different time zones and schedules.

Beacon Biosignals is transforming precision medicine for the brain, from clinical development to clinical care. For Life Sciences partners, we offer the leading at-home EEG platform for clinical development of novel therapeutics for neurological, psychiatric, and sleep disorders. Our Diagnostics business is building the most comprehensive at-home platform for precision diagnostics, combining EEG and cardiopulmonary signals to deliver reimbursable assessments for sleep and central nervous system disorders. Beacon Biosignals is seeking a customer-focused Senior Program Manager to join us in our mission to make brain monitoring easily accessible, interpretable, and actionable. As a Senior Program Manager, you'll work with neurologists, research scientists, data scientists and engineers to deliver high-quality, reproducible analysis products that drive advancements in brain heath. This role reports to the Program Management Director and is part of our Life Sciences business.
Beacon's robust asynchronous work practices ensure a first-class remote work experience, but we also have in-person office hubs available located in Boston, New York and Paris.
What success looks like:
  • Work with the team to develop project plans and execute those plans to timelines and budget
  • Adapt plans to changing customer needs and/or changes in analysis approach as new findings are revealed
  • Serve as a primary contact point for the customer, ensuring timely response and communication
  • Ensure appropriate and timely decision-making
  • Support data collection from customers and collaborators, and ensuring compliance to data onboarding protocols
  • Ensure compliance with operating procedures and standards for data extraction processes, visualization and data governance
  • Document and organize requirements, success criteria, milestones and deliverables for projects

What you will bring:
  • You have a knack for finding the best times to deliver helpful reminders that keep people and the project on track
  • You ask questions that help the team uncover dependencies, identify priorities, and anticipate where new quality checks will be needed
  • You capture key takeaways from conversations in well-structured notes made visible to the entire team
  • You track multiple threads in conversation and ensure all important topics are fully addressed
  • You facilitate productive meetings and ensure input from all team members is heard
  • You've been known to work and re-work a written communication until you are satisfied it is clear and concise
  • You know how to figure out what the team should do first and why
  • You're known for catching little errors and inconsistencies that affect the quality of a deliverable
  • You've successfully managed complex projects that require the involvement of cross-functional teams and/or you've unsuccessfully done so and know what went wrong and what you'd do differently
  • When presented with data and charts, you research and ask questions until you understand what the chart is saying
  • You are interested in learning more about analytics, statistics, and/or machine learning
  • 2+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences industry
  • Prior tech startup experience strongly preferred
