Duties
Help
Serves as an Information Technology (IT) Specialist providing technical and advisory assistance in support of the information management needs of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO). Performs a variety of tasks associated with the day-to-day operations and administration of IT and related systems within the Office of the United States Attorney. Typical work assignments will include:
  • Providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting
  • Resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems
  • Implementing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability
  • Monitoring functionality, security, and integrity of internet services
  • Assist in the planning, development and coordination of litigation support and case management services
  • Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining customer hardware and software

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications
At The GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below:
Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; Coordinate teleconference and distance learning activities; Installing new upgraded software; Collaborate to configure using knowledge of network standards and protocols and maintaining access control systems.
OR
Education: Successful completion of one (1) full year of graduate education (18 semester hours or the number of units your school uses to describe one graduate year of academic study) leading to a master's degree in a related field (e.g. computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management) which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do Information Technology Specialist work.
OR
Superior Academic Achievement: Possess a Bachelor's Degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months AND possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 OR at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on the average of required courses completed in my major field OR based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; OR election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

A combination of specialized experience and education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements.
At The GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below:
Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing technical and advisory assistance to support information technology needs of an agency or public sector; assisting in the planning and delivery of customer support service at the point of computer user/specialist interface; and installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining networked systems.

Education:
One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information Science, Engineering, Computer Science): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.); OR 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in one of the following fields OR must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management.
OR
A combination of specialized experience and education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements.
At The GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below:
Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing technical and advisory assistance to support the information management needs of an agency or public sector. Specialized experience may involve evaluating and resolving hardware and software problems; providing information technology concepts, methods, standards and practices.
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information Science, Engineering, Computer Science): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in one of the following fields OR must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management.
OR
A combination of specialized experience and education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
