Position Overview:

Ameresco has an opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to lead the execution of utility-scale solar, distributed generation, community solar, and energy storage projects across the United States. This role is responsible for delivering complex renewable energy projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate is a proven construction leader with deep experience managing EPC or self-perform renewable energy projects and a track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams through project completion.

This position will report directly to the Senior Director of Construction - Solar PV and BESS and is based in Boston, MA, with travel to project sites as required. Travel is expected to be approximately 20-30%.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the construction execution of utility-scale solar, DG, and BESS projects from Notice to Proceed through commercial operation.

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, forecasts, and overall financial performance, including identifying value engineering opportunities to improve cost efficiency

  • Direct project teams including Construction Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and support staff.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, utilities, developers, and key stakeholders.

  • Drive resolution of project risks, technical challenges, and commercial issues.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and contractual requirements.

  • Oversee schedule development, project controls, reporting, change management, and contract administration.

  • Standardize change order and schedule reporting processes across the project portfolio to improve consistency and forecasting accuracy.

  • Provide weekly project status reporting to the Senior Director of Construction, including key risks and schedule/budget variances.

  • Support project commissioning, testing, turnover, and closeout activities.

  • Mentor and develop project management staff while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of construction project management experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years managing utility-scale solar, distributed generation, or related power infrastructure projects.

  • Experience managing projects valued from $5M to $150M+.

  • Strong understanding of EPC project delivery, subcontract management, and construction execution.

  • Working knowledge of project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and project controls.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with, or demonstrated ability to quickly ramp up on, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) construction and commissioning.

  • Demonstrated success managing client relationships and leading multidisciplinary teams.

  • Detailed knowledge of all phases of solar and BESS project development, including engineering, procurement, and construction and project management (EPC/EPCM)

  • PMP certification and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Experience with Microsoft Project, Procore, and construction management software platforms.

  • OSHA 30 certification.

  • Experience with prevailing wage (Davis-Bacon) compliance on federally funded or state-mandated construction projects.

  • Must be able to walk active job sites, including on unpaved or uneven ground, and wear required PPE at all times while on site.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $134,000 - $194,000 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.

Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
