JOB DESCRIPTION
The Electrical Apprentice will assist Journeymen and Master Electricians with the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and inspection of Electrical and Instrumentation equipment within an industrial environment. This position should exhibit professionalism, a positive attitude, and technical competence while performing duties. He/She must work diligently to ensure codes and OBR standards are met while the project is completed safely and efficiently. This position may require travel depending on project location, with per diem, mileage, and gas reimbursement being offered.
ROLES/TASKS OF THE POSITION
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit.
  • Install tubing for instruments.
  • Pull wiring through conduit and label appropriately.
  • Connect wiring to controllers and instruments.
  • Assist with testing continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as a multimeter (volt, amp & ohmmeter).
  • Mount instruments and electrical panels using a variety of hand tools.
  • Observe the functioning of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Assist in testing, troubleshooting, and repair of wiring and connections.
  • Overtime and weekend work based on job demands.
  • Always maintain a safe work environment including the use of PPE.
  • Collaborate with other electricians and contractors on larger projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Reliable transportation
  • Knowledge and application of safety standards
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and best practices through training, vocational schooling, or apprenticeship program
  • A minimum of 1 year's experience as an Electrician in a construction/industrial setting.
  • Currently enrolled/willing to enroll in an apprenticeship program.
  • Experience with common tools used such as: hand tools, power tools (saws, drills), machinery (conduit cutters), multimeters, tubing bender and cutters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lifting of up to 50 pounds, bending, climbing (stairs and structures) and stooping
  • Keyboarding/typing
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or paper copy
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally
  • Outside or in a plant environment; may be exposed to bad weather and/or excessive heat and noise.
  • Hazardous chemicals are typically produced or stored in a location close to the Work area.

PREREQUISITES/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Negative 10-panel urinalysis and breath alcohol test.
  • Valid Driver's License and proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Satisfactory background check.
