Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, DevOps (Azure) based in Netherlands.

This role is a senior-level DevOps engineering position focused on designing, building, and operating scalable, secure, and highly available Azure cloud environments. You will take ownership of the full infrastructure lifecycle, enabling development teams through robust CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and modern cloud-native practices. Working in a high-impact engineering environment, you will manage production-critical systems across Kubernetes, API gateways, event-driven architectures, and distributed cloud services. The role requires strong expertise in Azure ecosystems, with a focus on reliability, automation, and operational excellence. You will collaborate closely with developers to streamline delivery processes, improve system performance, and ensure secure deployments across environments. This is an opportunity to shape cloud infrastructure strategy while working in a fully remote, globally distributed engineering team.

Accountabilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain production-grade Azure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Bicep), ensuring scalable and reproducible cloud environments.
  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps YAML, integrating automated testing, deployment gates, and secure delivery workflows.
  • Operate and optimize Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), including cluster performance tuning, autoscaling, Helm-based deployments, and networking configurations.
  • Manage and support Azure API Management, Azure App Gateway, and Azure Front Door to ensure secure and high-performance application delivery.
  • Support event-driven architectures using Azure Event Hubs (including Kafka support) for real-time data processing and microservices communication.
  • Own production reliability, including monitoring with Azure Monitor and Application Insights, incident response, and root cause analysis.
  • Enforce cloud security best practices using Azure Entra ID, RBAC, Key Vault, Azure Policy, and container security controls.
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve DevOps maturity, Git workflows, and cloud-native engineering practices.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Cloud Engineering within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Azure core services, including VNets, NSGs, load balancers, and storage solutions.
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Bicep or equivalent tools.
  • Deep experience with AKS in production environments, including scaling, networking, and workload optimization.
  • Solid knowledge of Azure APIM, App Gateway, and Event Hubs (Kafka integration preferred).
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and/or Python.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, including identity management, vulnerability scanning, and secure CI/CD practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering and product teams.
  • Comfortable working independently in agile, fast-paced, remote environments.
  • Azure certifications such as AZ-400 or AZ-305 are a plus.
  • Experience with GitOps (Flux or ArgoCD), service meshes (Istio), or FinOps practices is a bonus.
Benefits
  • Competitive USD-based salary aligned with experience.
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Long-term full-time employment opportunity.
  • 20+ days of paid time off annually.
  • Opportunity to work with modern Azure cloud-native technologies at scale.
  • Exposure to high-impact, production-critical systems in a global engineering environment.
  • Collaborative and growth-oriented engineering culture with strong ownership and autonomy.
